Advantages: Absolutely nothing.
Disadvantages: weak tasting, gritty, awful packaging, flimsy.
I first tried this coffee many years ago before I found my coffee of choice and I recently had a cup and it was just awful, I am in no way a coffee snob, I will drink any instant but this has to be one of the worst tasting coffee's I have ever come across, hopefully my review will warn other potential drinkers out there.
Firstly the jar of this coffee is pretty regular to any other brand, it is in a slim, tallish jar that has a label with palish blue colouring , yellow coffee in a mug (what kind of coffee comes out yellow??) and a deeper blue mug with yellow writing. I am not bothered by the aesthetics of a product as long as it works or tastes good but this design isn't good, the colours clash and it just looks cheap and lacking quality. The screw top is also blue in colour and is made of thin plastic. It definitely wouldn't stand the test of being thrown on the ground. The glass is thin and lightweight as well as the cap which is just another way that shows this brand lacks quality.
On opening the screw cap lid there is a freshness seal which is something I suppose, this is easily removable by peeling it off, when you do so there is no strong aroma of coffee that is evident with many other brands. This was my first inkling that this is a very weak coffee and nothing like the middle grade that I am used to. The granules are like powder they are small and gritty. To make I add a heaped spoon to my cup and top up with boiling water, again the cup is lacking that warming aroma I am so used to. To be fair the powder does dissolve easily which is evident when I add a splash of milk. The colour that is left is nothing like a strong, rich brown but has a more very weak tea colouring to it, even stron tea has a better colour which doesn't bode well.
On tasting this coffee my fears were evident when there was absolutely no coffee flavour at all, it was a taste of lightly flavoured water with a sort of gravely taste to it. It was just terrible, I can't describe how awful it tasted. I have never tasted "coffee" with it, it's an insult to coffee by naming this as such. My mum is not a fan of strong coffee, she much prefers a mild, weaker taste and yet even she couldn't stand this, it's just far too weak. If you add extra powder you end up with floaters which I just didn't even consider drinking the cup and the rest ended up sat in a cupboard and eventually thrown out. I wouldn't serve this to my worst enemy. As I said I am no coffee snob and I will drink anything from Tesco's to Douwe Egberts or fancy "proper" coffee but to drink this is sinful, it is singularly the worst tasting beverage I have ever tried. I am giving this one star simply because I can't give it any lower but I urge anyone considering this to run and never look back because if there is anyone out there who enjoy's this, they are a rare breed few and far between!
Summary: Don't even go there, an insult to coffee drinkers everywhere.
