Nescafe Gold Blend
Advantages: Tastes great, smells great
Disadvantages: Quite pricey
What better excuse is there to sit savouring a steaming cup of coffee than that of writing a review about it.
I love coffee, particularly the first cup of the day - and none so much as Nescafe's Gold Blend. I have tried many different brands of coffee, for many different reasons : to find a cheaper brand, I liked as much, in desperation when Gold Blend wasn't available, curiosity as to whether or not the supermarket's own version could compete (it couldn't), and simply a desire to try a different brand. No such factors were due to dissatisfaction with my Gold Blend, and to be honest, for me, none have ever compared.
Gold Blend is available in several different sizes including re-fill packets and small, convenient single serving packets. They also offer a de-caffeinated version of the drink which does taste similar. However, I personally like the caffeinated version better.
I know it sounds terribly sad, perhaps I should get a life, but my groan of pleasure is audible when I pierce the aluminium seal on a new jar of Gold Blend and absorb the aroma. The smell emitted from a brand new jar is amazing; it has to be up there along with freshly baked bread and just cut flowers - I'm in heaven before I've even added a spoonful to my cup!
On adding the water and milk I find that the granules do always dissolve completely. Even if adding milk first I'm not left with 'floaters' as I've often found with other brands! Obviously, how much milk is added is personal preference, but I find that a nice golden colour is achieved without skimping on coffee or making it cold with milk.
Tastewise, I find this product has the perfect balance between richness and smoothness. It satisfies those coffee cravings brilliantly and leavews you wanting more after the first sip.
If I had to pick a fault with the coffee, it wouldn't be with the drink itself but with the price. I do find it quite expensive; as mentioned it comes in various sizes with differing prices accordingly. To give an example, inmy local supermarket the pricing is:
£8.98...300gram re-fill packet
Obviously, it works out better value in the long run to get the larger re-fills, though I don't get my exciting moment of opening a new jar as often then!! I don't often find this brand to be on special offer which makes me think it doesn't need to be reduced in price in order to sell it.
The phrase 'you get what you pay for' is true in this case, and I will pay more for a cup of Nescafe Gold Blend.
Summary: Worth its weight in gold!
