Advantages: It is very good for baking coffee flavoured cakes and desserts
Disadvantages: It has got a very harsh and burnt taste
WHAT IS IT?
An instant coffee, the original one that most people will have tried from Nescafé.
This coffee is quite strong but it is not very smooth so even though it has been the popular choice for a long time a lot of people are turning away from it now. It has got a harsh flavour that doesn't even taste mellower if you add lots of milk to your drink. You need to add sugar if you drink Nescafé and I don't like it black because it is so harsh that there is hardly any flavour to the coffee until you add your milk. I always think Nescafé tastes burnt but I think that is because it has got such a dull flavour.
WHAT I THINK
I think Nescafé Original is very overrated and that people only still buy it through force of habit because there are many better coffees available now. It is still quite expensive but tastes like cheap coffee compared to drinks like Douwe Egberts and Carte Noire.
The granules are very dark and large but they stir into the coffee well when I add the boiling water. I like the smell of Nescafé Original because it is very rich but that's a shame because it makes me expect a nicer cup of coffee than I actually get. I use Nescafé Original when I am making Tiramisu or coffee cake because the strong flavour and aroma goes nice in cooking and doesn't go weak when you add things like cream or cake ingredients.
My husband likes Nescafé but he prefers Gold Blend because it has got a smoother flavour but he is going off that as well now and likes other instant coffee better. I keep a small 100g jar in my cupboard for when my father in law visits because this is the only coffee he will drink.
2 Dooyoo Stars.
Summary: I do not like Nescafé Original anymore
