Advantages: The taste
Disadvantages: None for me
I've given up on the cheap instant coffee that I've been drinking over the last few months and treated myself to proper coffee. I bought a jar of Nescafe and on seeing a Refill pack of Nescafe Original at half price in Tesco I bought that too. The jar was pricey at £2.68 for 100g but it only cost me £1.79 for 150g (until 13 nov 2012) for a refill- they're own brand coffee is £1.23 per 100g.
The jar is just a glass jar with a brown screw lid and a brown and red label. The refill is a foil pouch with 'Nescafe Original Rich and Full Flavoured' written on it and that's about it. I would agree with that- I didn't realise how horrible cheap coffee was until I made myself a mug. The top can be closed up with the bendy plastic wire thingy or the sticky tab.
It was easy to open. On opening it I see it's alot darker than the coffee I've been drinking and the granules look smaller. This sounds mad but to me it smells like burnt toast (although not once poured).
Very easy to make it's the usual instant coffee- put a teaspoonful in a mug, pour on boiling water and add milk/ sugar to taste, even better if you use cream instead of milk. The granules dissolve without leaving grainy bits.
The coffee is dark brown and rich looking. It's not particularly strong smelling but it does smell like coffee. I find it tastes stronger than it smells. It can be bitter if you use too much so I only use a small spoonful. I find it strong but smooth with a nice bittery flavour to it but without a horrid aftertaste. It's closer to the coffee bean coffee that I have when I'm out than any other brand I've tried- lately anyway.
I'm really enjoying this coffee, it makes a change from the dish water I've been drinking.
5 Stars from me because I'm comparing it to the cheap brands I've had.
Summary: Nescafe is a rich strong coffee that doesn't leave a bitter aftertaste
