Advantages: Coffee tastes ok

Disadvantages: Cant taste the figs

I bought this Viennese Style Coffee with Figs when it was on offer in Sainsbury's store around the corner from my office about a year ago.  I have tried most of the coffee blends in this Sainsbury's range and they are often on offer at two 227g bags for £4, instead of the £2.50 per bag usual price.

I was really intrigued by the added figs and excited about trying this coffee, the packaging says it is sweet and fruity and it is about 12% fig, so I was expecting a really figgy flavour, but I couldn't taste the figs at all - big disappointment.  The coffee itself tasted quite nice, it's rated 3/5 so not strong but it had a full roast flavour, however it didn't "do what it said on the tin".

On opening the packet a good waft of fresh coffee emerged, but no smell of figs.  I used about one scoop of coffee per cup, it wasn't strong but also it wasn't bitter and perfectly drinkable - I really don't like bitter coffee.

I keep my coffee in an air-tight coffee tin to help to keep it fresh and it lasted well and remained tasting and smelling ok too.  Usually I keep my fresh ground coffee in the fridge at home, however this is not possible at work as it is likely to grow legs and walk off.  The packaging this coffee comes in is actually very good and has two flexible metal flaps at the top of the bag which hold it closed.  Sainsburys coffee does have some of the best resealable coffee packs I have seen, much better than the sticky label reseal which is on most brands.  The packing itself if foil inside to help keep the coffee fresh.

I have tried quite a few other coffees in this range, most recently the Continental blend, which was really good.  This Viennese with Figs coffee tasted fine, not as good as the Continental, but about the same in amount of flavour as All Day Long or Premium blends.  I was thoroughly disappointed not to be able to taste the figs, hence have never bought this blend again.  The coffee is also fairtrade.

I'm going to give this coffee 2/5, the coffee tastes fine, but don't expect to taste the figs.

Summary: A drinkable coffee blend.
