Great mellow coffe from a quality brand

I had never really associated Twinings with coffee to be honest but am a massive fan of their teas and drink their Earl Grey daily as my tea at home. However, on a recent trip to Sainsbury's I noticed a promotional stand with a range of these Twinings coffee blends on it, they were being sold at the introductory price of £1.39 although I think they will probably retail at around £2 when this offer is over.

I had actually run out of filter coffee so picked up the mellow blend (strength 2) because I wanted this as coffee I might enjoy on a weekend afternoon rather than as rocket fuel to get me up in a morning!

The packet tells me it is a blend of Columbian, Costa Rican and Kenyan beans and that it has been blended and packed in the UK. I also noticed that on the side it says to ring their head office if I would like to sample another coffee from their range, I dont need to be asked twice to I duly rang them and asked to try their rich roast which I could use as an after dinner coffee.

The lady I spoke to at their office was lovely (I was half expecting an automated service to be honest!) and in return for grilling me on my purchase details (where, how much, opinion, bar code etc) she promised to send me a sample pack - this has since arrived and is a small packet enough for 2 cups but I have not tried it yet, I will review once sampled.

So - back to the mellow, well I tried it for the first time last week and I have to say it really is very tasty and easy to drink coffee. The smell was so rich as I opened the packet and whilst brewing. I have tried it in both my filter machine and my caffetiere and it has worked perfectly both times.

It really is very mellow in flavour, I like my coffee with milk and a bit of sugar to take the edge off but with this blend there is hardly any bitterness at all. It has a slight nutty flavour to it which I really like and leaves a very pleasent after taste in my mouth.

For me this mellow blend is perfect for during the day drinking, it did not make me feel wired whilst at the same time providing a nice caffeine hit. I do not think it is robust enough for after dinner and it isnt strong enough for my first-thing-in-the-morning cup, but is a blend I would keep a pot of during the day, especially if working from home.

I think Twinings have managed to pull it off with their coffee range and have injected their high quality standards into this product, look out for the free sample offer if you buy it too (or check money saving expert where I am sure the details will be published!). A great product and one which is likely to get brand loyalty from me!

Smooth Colombian beans, blended with refreshing Kenyan beans and rich aromatic Costa Rican beans to create a coffee that can be enjoyed throughout the day.
