An excellent new era for Batman with the start of a run that will be talked about for years to come.

Every now and then a partnership comes together in the comic book industry that have great chemistry and imagination and create something special, Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, Denny O'Neil & Neil Adams, Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale and now we have Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo. I really enjoyed the mystery and intrigue of this story. It was a brave choice to do something looking into Gotham's History like this when DC was heading into a new phase but it works. I will admit that some of parts are a little dialogue heavy but this balanced out with the overall story. In addition to this Capullo's art is excellent (I have been a fan since his days on Todd McFarlene's Spawn) and brings every aspect of the story off the page with his distinct style. Capullo's real talent is that he brings something special to the quieter more character moments just as much as the splash action pages. I honestly believe that this run by these two is something that will be talked about for years to come as a standout and rightfully so. Get in at the ground floor and get this volume. (P.S. a quick note, this is only the first part of the court of owls story. Batman Vol 2 concludes the story, and a Volume call "City of Owls" collects all the tie in issues from related comics - Nightwing, Batman & Robin, Batgirl etc)
