Scott Snyder may well be the best writer Batman has ever had (this is extreme praise in itself) and coupled with the stunning art of Greg Capullo this is a series that is an absolute winner. Part of DCs New 52 resurgence, this has proven to be a critically acclaimed comic that has certainly made it onto my 'must not miss' list.
The City of Owls is the second volume by this winning team, and continues where Court of Owls left off, once again hauling the reader along for an intriguing ride with plenty of twists and excitement. Court of Owls set a precedence in quality of art, innovation of layout and providing a story line that kept the reader guessing. The second volume doesn't let up - Capullo's art is beautiful and dynamic, with fantastic attention to detail and the ability to convey some great emotions. I don't wish to go into detail regarding the story itself as that would serve only to spoil it for future readers. Needless to say it is incredibly well written, interesting and it delivers a satisfying close to the Court of Owls line whilst tantalising readers with what will follow in future volumes.
I read a great deal of graphic novels and I can honestly say that few have given me the reading pleasure and experience that this series has. Pick up Volume 1 and then grab this graphic novel. They're available for bargain prices these days - you will not regret it at all.
