The ninth one in my series of reviews going over the manga adaptation of the Battle Royale book, by Koushun Takami about a group of high school students who are sent to an island and told to kill each other off. --- This volume of the manga features Hiroki Sugimura - martial arts champion and gentle giant as he carries on in his search for his crush Kayoko Kotohiki, but runs into the creepy, snivelling toad-faced Toshinori Oda, the one who pushed the girl into the well. You may have watched the DVD's or stumbled upon the book, however I find the Manga version to be a much more thrilling and entrancing version of this story. For those that don't know the basic story here's what it's based on: We follow a class of school children chosen to take part in The Program (officially called Greater East Asia Republic Combat Experiment Number 68, aka The Battle Royale Act). The children selected for this are in the 9th grade (14/15 year olds), and the class is picked from a short list of 50, with the sole intention to force them into combat and eliminate each other.
