Mister Wolf is an alpha male. Fearsome leader of his local wolf pack, he decides what is what. And when he sees a cute little tabby kitten seeming lost and all alone in the forest, he decides he must take it home. It can be his wife when it finishes growing up in a few months! But when the pack leaves for 6 weeks on an extended hunt, he returns to a surprise. That's no little house cat, that's a huge Bengal tiger. And it's not only male but has decided Mr Wolf is HIS wife! What's a wolf to do?!



Ahiro Haruno's manga is episodic in nature, each chapter complete in itself but together making a larger story. It is more than obvious that this was originally serialised and then gathered in tanko without any changes, as there is an incessant referral to how Mr Wolf found Mr Tiger and yada yada yada. These are inset into panels of new material, so one can easily skip those bits of text and just read the new part of the story unfolding, so it's not too much of a distraction. Her anthropomorphic animals are lovely bishounen with animal ears, and the panel artwork is pleasing to the eye, with a clean layout. The BL (Boy's Love) elements are played for comedic effect and that is quite well done, raising a smile with ease.



What does detract seriously from its appeal however, is the translation. A frequent point made in the manga is how tigers do not marry and are definitely not monogamous. They mate in a series of one night stands, never looking back. It is stated over and over again by characters in the manga. However, the translator repeatedly also uses the word polygamy, which is quite incorrect and which any decent editor should have caught as a mistake. Polygamy refers to a type of plural marriage, with all parties dedicated to a lasting commitment to one another. It simply doesn't fit the storyline, and actually disrupts the story flow as it makes all that is said quite contradictory. It's a goof up I certainly did not expect to find in a manga produced by this company, and I hope it is not a sign of things to come as it definitely is a step downhill in quality control. So while the story is a 4 out of 5, I am going to have to knock off a star for the poor production quality.
