As a big fan of the Uncharted games on the Playstation 3 I knew as soon as I found out about the Uncharted book that I would be buying it. The Uncharted games have amazing storylines and so I hoped that this book would too.
This book is a graphic novel which contains all 6 Uncharted comics.
If you have played the Uncharted games you'll have some idea of what to expect from this book.
The story is about Nathan Drake and Sully, two treasure hunters who are, of course, looking for treasure. They meet Chloe who also happens to be doing the same.
The story is a quest to find the Amber Room. The characters find themselves in the centre of the Earth in a lost realm, which is more dangerous than anyone ever imagined.
You learn how Drake and Chloe first meet, which adds to the storyline as although their past is mentioned in the games you never find out how they actually met. As is the case with the three games, there is something supernatural going on and the adventure for treasure goes very wrong. As if that wasn't bad enough the people who Drake and Sully were working for are not only causing more problems but they are quite happy to kill them both.
The graphics in the book are great and pretty detailed, although there are certain times when the characters don't look quite like they do in the games. It's always obvious who everyone is and everything is really well drawn but the images of the characters do vary.
It's clear what all the characters are doing and saying so you don't get confused who is speaking or what is going on. It also shows the cover art that is on the comics so you're not missing out on anything by buying the graphic novel instead of the comics.
At the back of the book there is a sketch gallery which includes some extra drawings. This is a nice bonus and it's interesting to see the graphics without any colour and the stages that the artists went through to produce the book.
The main character is Nathan Drake. Drake, just like in the games, always has some witty or sarcastic comment to make. He's rather clever and although he always finds himself in life threatening situations he always manages to get out alive. Drake is willing to take risks to find treasure.
Sully also appears in the book. Sully is older than Drake and not so willing to take risks. He's always happy to help out Drake.
A short while into the book Chloe also appears and you learn who she is as this is the first time her and Drake meet. Chloe, like Drake, is quite happy to take risks and often comes out with witty comments.
Although Elena is shown on the front cover she isn't actually in the book at all. I guess it was just because fans of the book will recognise her, but it does seem a bit daft for her to be on the cover. Any fan of the games will recognise the other three who are in the story and anyone who isn't a fan won't understand why there's a random woman on the cover who doesn't appear in the story.
The characters are just the same as in the games so fans won't be disappointed.
You can buy this graphic novel new from Amazon and Play.com for around £8. At just 144 pages this does seem rather expensive. However, to buy the comics separately would cost far more. Going by Ebay prices, it would cost over £8 just for 3 issues and not all the issues are that easy to find, especially not cheap, which makes this book quite a bargain!
Overall this is a fantastic book and a must have for any Uncharted fans. Highly recommended.
