I have known GroupWise for 2 months since my office does not allow to use Outlook(Which is the one I use at most time). GroupWise is a type of office software provided by Novell. Its mainly used for email as well as calendar, instant messaging and documents management. It is cross-platform software, which can run on Windows, Linux and Netware. Im using it in Windows XP for my work. GroupWise can be installed as desktop client or be accessed through GroupWise WebAccess. They both have user-friendly interface and provide pretty much same functions. As mentioned above, these functions include: Email: Apart from no alert for desktop client, the email function is generally fine. Messages can be written in plain text or HTML and can be encrypted. Emails can be organized by rules. The junk mail handling system is quite good and it allows users to filter emails. Contact: GroupWise automatically record the contact from sending list into the contact list. It also records the frequency of contact usage. It is very useful as it gives suggestions according to the usage when you try to fill in the receiver list. You can choose automatically filling in with suggestions. Calendar: The calendar is good and easy to use. Like most calendar systems, it allows users to add events and appointments and view them by day, week, month or year. It provides simple navigators to browse between days, weeks, months and years. In addition it allows users to share the calendar with multiple users. Instant messaging: This function is only available to desktop client. It is a simple messaging system similar to most others. I havent got chance to use it, so I would rather not to comment much here. Documents: It allows users to upload documents and manage them on the server. Meanwhile, users can download them from the server. Documents will be numbered according to the server system and they can be organized in different folders. CheckList: It can be used to check items which need further actions. When actions are completed, you can then move these items from the list. Its a good reminder on responding mail messages. I have been using GroupWise for about 2 months and the following are the Pros and Cons I found: Pros: - User friendly interface - Good navigation between home page, mail folder and contacts. - Easy to use. - Auto contact recording. Cons: - The desktop client may take much memory and make machine running slow.
