Advantages: Fast, reliable, safe and customisable.
Disadvantages: Heavily customised broswers suffer at low internet speeds
Firefox has been my default browser for about a year now, and I often wonder what took me so long to convert.
Firefox is open source, fast, safe and has great functionality. I love the customisability of it, which means I can have MY internet, MY way. I love the bookmarks toolbar, which means I can have all the sites I visit regularly at the top of my browser, and no more than a click away. I also like the popup blockers; meaning I get my internet uninterrupted by ads for porn. I honestly don't remember the last time I saw a popup. In addition to this Firefox has (or can have, with add ons) persona's, skins, add blockers, download toolbars, tabbed browsing (and interesting ways of switching tabs) and so much more.
My favourite thing about Firefox has to be StumbleUpon! You will while away many hours surfing the net with this tool.
The only downside to all this customisability is that the browser can quickly become bulk, which reduces the speed of the browser somewhat. I've found Firefox to be somewhat lacking when the internet speed is below 2Mbps. Other than that though, Firefox is an all round high performer.
Summary: Good all round performer, and if you don't like something, change it!

- 29/07/09 Latest version (3.5.1) is quite flaky. It crashes regularly on my machine, usually as soon as you open IE8 at the same time. Never had this problem with previous versions. |
