Advantages: Add-on's, all features so much more useable than IE
Disadvantages: Not really applicable, as it's open source software, meaning free!
Does anyone still really use Internet Explorer these days? There is a huge host of rivals to Microsoft's still dominating web browser, and in my opinion, Mozilla's Firefox is the one to go for.
The differences do seem relatively subtle at first glaces, but you soon notice improvements over Microsoft's own.
The tabbed browsing, spell checking and 'find' features are far superior to Microsoft's own in the way they can be used and manipulated. For instance when using several tabs in one window, you may right click a current tab and chose to open it into a new window, freeing up space in your current tab bar and allowing you to browse freely in the new window.
The add-on's are what I find make firefox really great though. With firefox being an open-source piece of software, anyone is free to write programs and modify the software, leadings to add-on's for nearly anything. At present I currently use 16 different add-on's in my browser, ranging from being able to download embedded videos (like on sites such as youtube), spell checks, form auto-fillers and photo downloaders which are great for downloading an entire album of pictures from facebook.
If you're still using Internet Explorer then I implore you to at least try out firefox, I can almost guarantee you wont want to switch back!
Summary: So much better than IE, who would still use it?

- 04/11/09 IE cannot come near to Firefox. In terms of customisation and tweaks it'sunbeatable. Fast too. Google Firefox about:config tweaks for speed boost.
Nice review but should be a bit longer, after all its the best browser! |

- 04/11/09 I love Firefox :-) |

- 04/11/09 I used IE until about March this year. It was not working well wit a few sites I was on so I tried Firefox, but it used up my Ram. It was fab though. I am now using Google Chrome which I love also. It works well and I don't have to use the add ons that come with Firefox so it works better for me really. If I had a new laptop though I would use Firefox I guess. Well good info. |
