Advantages: Safer internet experience.
Disadvantages: None
WOT (Web of Trust) is a website rating program which helps you to avoid nasty websites trying to scam you, send you junk mail and contain viruses in their downloads.
You can download an add-on for your internet browser, either IE or Firefox, which integrates with your Google, Yahoo or Live searches and shows up warnings on harmful websites. They use a simple traffic light system rating dangerous websites red, websites to be wary of amber and websites proven trustworthy green.
If you find a site which is dangerous you can also recommend it and rate it which will help other members in the future; you can also read other people's ratings of the websites on the my WOT website.
It also provides warning within your email program; Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail, as to weather the e-mail is a scam and any links within it are dangerous.
There is also a handy parent control feature which blocks dangerous and over age sites for children.
I recommend downloading WOT for your browser today as not only will it help you to keep your PC safe; it will help keep you and your details safe from scams and junk mail.
At the moment it has over 23 Million rated websites and growing!

- 15/06/09 If you go on a dangerous/poorly rated website the screen will go blurred black and a large red circle will show saying this site is dangerous. A very useful tool for you and your children. |

- 15/06/09 I'd never even heard of this before. I'm off to check it out - anything that gives something my kids can understand will help (they never read error messages, but a red light might work... ;-)). |
