Small and easy is how I like to describe WS FTP. Downloads these days more often use HTTP but FTP is still the most robust method.

WS FTP, written by IPswitch, contains all the features you could need for easy up and download of data. I will only use WS for uploading large (>30Mb) files because it is so reliable over latent connections giving a full report of speed and volume transfered that is accurate.

The interface is uncluttered and simple. Pick the site to connect to, there are many added by default at install, and click on 'connect'. The scroll box at the bottom of the window shows all relevant connection progress and any FTP site text. The window presents you with a classic explorer type window on the left and right. On the left is your local drive(s) and folders. On the right the FTP site folders. Highlight the file you want and simply click on the direction arrow to upload or download into your selected destination. Simple!

My overall choice for WS FTP Pro is the FTP browsing capabilities. You can view all your FTP sites in a explorer type window, double click on the icon and you are connected to as many as you wish. This is an excellent feature to manage multiple sets of folders on multiple servers and move files between them. Maybe not needed by many home users, but if you have alot of home page sites like me, then moving images around is very very easy.
