      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Nice for occasional indulgences

We were introduced to this by a friend and have since gone back to the shop to buy our own.

The product comes in a 295ml upside down squeezy bottle through which you squeeze the product onto your plate or food as appropriate.

We like mayo but by itself it can be a bit bland. Having this option with a twist of sweet chilli certainly livens it up a bit.

It looks not unlike Thousand Island dressing in terms of colour and consistency but it has got a nice tang to it which livens up the taste.

It has had extensive use over the Christmas period, having been used in turkey sandwiches as a dressing and with burgers and sausage as a sauce.

I think we all know that mayonnaise is really quite fattening (even this product which claims to contain reduced fat mayonnaise) and I wasn't too surprised to note that 36% of this product is Vegetable Oil and that a measly 15ml serving contains a hefty 64 calories.

It is clear then that in order to stand a chance of adhering to a New Year's Resolution, I will have to try hard not to develop too great a liking for it! I'll also have to cut down on portion size.

The product is suitable for vegetarians. Under Allergy Advice, we are advised that it contains egg and sulphites.

The product should be kept in the fridge after opening and consumed within 6 weeks. We would definitely recommend and will certainly be buying some more.

A Delicious Mayonnaise With Red Pepper Flecks.

In our household we don't often try many new condiments or sauces as we are real fans of the HP Classic BBQ Sauce, Heinz Tomato Ketchup & Basics Mayonnaise and this is usually all we buy, however, as we were having a party food night recently I fancied something new for a change and when I spotted this Branston Mayonnaise with Reduced Fat and Sweet Chili I just had to purchase it as my fiance is a big fan of anything with sweet chili in it and I have slowly been converted as well.

This mayonnaise comes in a squeezable bottle with one of those non-drip plastic parts in the cap which means you have to squeeze it for any to be released and this means that if you don't shut the lid properly the mayonnaise will not spill all over the place and it also helps to keep the bottle nice and hygienic which is one of my pet hates usually!

The mayonnaise itself is a white/pink colour and there are lots of little red flecks throughout the mayonnaise and while some of these bits of dried red pepper are a little bit larger than others the whole thing squeezes out of the bottle with no problem at all. The mayonnaise is deliciously creamy and the red pepper flecks give it a lovely spicy hit and while I am not usually a big fan of spicy things although this was so spicy it left my lips tingling afterwards I just did not want to stop eating it as the creaminess of the cool mayonnaise and the sweet chili style flavour went so well together. This is the ideal sauce to use for dipping plain chicken and things that need a little bit more flavour but I wouldn't really recommend this for use in a sandwich as it would just not be as enjoyable as standard mayonnaise would. The mayonnaise is absolutely delicious and is a huge hit with everyone in the family as well. While I do think that a bottle of this is a little bit expensive (particularly compared to the basics mayonnaise we normally purchase) I will be buying this again in the future as it lasted for a couple of weeks and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. While we still used our usual favourites this is rapidly becoming a favourite at the dinner table and it even spruces up chopped vegetables by dipping them in.

Ingredients: Vegetable Oil (40%), Water, Dextrose, Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Egg Yolk (5%), Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Dried Red Pepper, Concentrated Lime Juice (contains Sulphites), Chilli Powder, Dried Red Chilli, Concentrated Lemon Juice, Preservative (Potassium Sorbate), Dried Onion, Antioxidant (E320).

A 295ml bottle of this is available from Sainsburys stores (amongst other places) for £1.58 and while this is on special offer occasionally there aren't many offers on this in Sainsburys stores so I may have to stop around before I purchase next time. Each 15ml serving of this mayonnaise provided 71 calories & 6.16g of fat.

Once opened this product should be kept in the fridge and consumed within 6 weeks and I am sure it will be consumed in that time as it's such a delicious, creamy yet spicy sauce that livens up any mealtime!

I would thoroughly recommend this sauce and I was very impressed with the quality of it and while it is quite spicy (not for a mild flavour lover!) this does not stop me enjoying it and loving the taste and even though it makes my lips tingle for an hour afterwards it's just delicious and highly recommend by me!

          Mayo with a chilli kick

Since I've hit the heavily pregnant stage I have been even less inclined to do the weekly shop therefore the responsibility has been put on Mr Lools. However he is under strict instruction not to deviate from the list and "add" items to the shopping basket. Last week however he bought the "bargain" Branston Mayonnaise with Sweet Chilli. Luckily as this was a tasty product I didn't give him too much grief for it.

          ***Packaging ***

The sauce comes in a clear plastic bottle with a black lid at the bottom of the bottle. The Label states that this is Mayo with a twist of Chilli and the Branston logo is also displayed on the front of the packaging. The bottle is very easy to squeeze however as the sauce is very thick it is quite difficult to come out at times.

          ***Price***
Asda currently have the Branston sauces on offer for £1. However usual price is £1.59.

***Branston Mayonnaise With Sweet Chilli ***

The mayonnaise has the same consistency and ordinary mayonnaise reasonably thick but is pink coloured with darker red spots of chilli in it. On appearance it doesn't look too appealing but it is worth persisting through the appearance.

Scent wise the mayonnaise has a slightly spicy scent to it, mixed with a slight hint of lemon.

Taste wise the mayonnaise is fantastic. The initial taste is a creamy mayonnaise flavour with a tangy lemon type taste. The chilli taste then hits you. I found that the initial chilli kick was very strong and quite spicy which has a kick to it without it burning your mouth. However after a few mouthfuls this initial strong spicy chilli taste dies down and is relatively mild as your taste buds adjust leaving a tingly feeling in your mouth.

I initially tried this with chips and it is great for dipping chips into and much more enjoyable than eating chips with traditional mayonnaise. I would also recommend the mayo as a dip, and think that it would be great to use as a dip for breadsticks and crudités.

The mayonnaise also compliments burgers very well so is a great sauce for BBQ's.

Another suggestion is to use this when making prawn cocktail. By adding a teaspoon of tomato sauce to four teaspoons of Branston Chilli Mayo gives a traditional seafood sauce a slight chilli kick which in my opinion compliments the flavour of prawns much more than a traditional sauce would.

          ***Overall***
This is a fantastic mayonnaise and is great served with chips, burgers and adds added spice to a prawn cocktail. Price wise as this is a "branded" sauce it is slightly expensive but is very good money if bought on special. I personally like quite spicy chilli flavours and I would say this is relatively mild, great for those that like medium spice but nothing too spicy. If you are not a fan of spicy foods then this is probably not for you as although it doesn't blow your head off, it does have a chilli kick to it. A great impulse purchase by Mr Lools.

You have unscrew the entire lid and use a knife to get out the last bits!

These are on offer for £1 in Tesco often and that's how I first tried them. They usually cost £1.59 so take advantage.

            ***Branston Serving Suggestion***

Branston have put a suggestion on the back of the bottle. This is suggesting that you spread the mayo onto unbuttered granary bread with plenty of peeled prawns and crisp lettuce. Yuck. Lol. But it also says "liven up mealtimes" with this and you can certainly do that- this stuff is magic!

            ***Taste***

This mayonnaise is a pink colour with red flecks of chilli in it. It's very creamy and a lot like normal mayo but with a kick. Some people might find it too spicy but I think it's the perfect consistency and level of spiciness- not too much, not too little, just right.

            ***My Opinion***

This is delicious! Like normal mayonnaise it goes brilliantly with everything but it goes one step further livening up any bland dish. I ate a plateful of plain pasta with some sweetcorn and generous dollops of this - belissimo! I have to say its addictive- I don't like a lot of foods now unless I have some of this. If you find it spicy initially, you will get used to it and then won't be able to eat bland foods!

It's fantastic in burgers and even sandwiches. If you like spicy or chilli foods then you will love this. It's incredible and much nicer than Hellmans or Heinz mayonnaise.

This mayo is also great as a dip served with cooling cucumber and carrots. Let's face it - it goes with anything!

I first discovered this during a barbeque. It went brilliantly with all of the food- everything from burgers, to salads, the chicken, the steak- absolutely everything you could have at a barbeque will taste better with this. Even a dollop on top of corn on the cob will be livened up with this sweet chilli kick.

The funny thing is I really love normal mayonnaise - correction, USED to really love it- and put it on everything from jacket potatos, to sandwiches (instead of margarine or butter) and now all of a sudden my passion for Normal Mayo has been replaced by love of it's fiery cousin! Sorry Normal Mayo, I can't help it; I'm in love. Maybe its his hot temper (taste) or smooth, slick attitude (texture), or maybe its because it just fits in soo well with everything elese in my life (plate) but I'm never going back to Normal Mayo again- unless a better mayo comes along. Sorry, but I'm fickle like that.

            ***Other Flavours***

This comes in three other flavours, I have tried the Lime and Chilli but this one is definitely the best as it has the strongest flavor.

            Lime & Chilli
            Mustard & Onion
A twist of Lemon and roasted Garlic

This comes in a plastic bottle with a black lid and has a label on it which says "Mayo with a twist of Sweet Chilli." The bottle is see through and through it you can see the mayonnaise. The mayonnaise is a dull yellowish colour with red bits visible all the way through it. The bottle is quite nice and it has the Branston name written in blue on a yellow background at the top of it. There is a red line all the way around it and it is square in shape. Then behind there is a green coloured picture. The most apparent colour on the front of the label is red that sort of looks brown and at the bottom of it you will see a picture of a chilli sliced with three sliced pieces of it beside it.

              Branston Serving Suggestion

Branston have put a suggestion on the back of the label. This is telling you to spread this onto unbuttered granary bread with plenty of peeled prawns and crisp lettuce. Not exactly my idea of heaven lol but i am sure that there is some people that will like it.

              Flavours

This comes in three other flavours, i have only tried this one but some of the other ones look rather nice as well.

              * Lime & Chilli, Lemon & Roast Garlic
              * Mustard & Onion
              * a twist of Lemon and roasted Garlic

              What Is It like?

This mayonnaise is a yellow colour and it is of a very creamy consistency. When you squeeze the bottle you get just the right amount and that is one thing that i really love about it because i know with most things that i have squeezed out of a bottle onto food, a lot of the time too much comes out and what you were about to eat winds up drowned in it but that doesn't happen with this.

              My Opinion

This is lovely, my mum bought me it in after another rant about how fussy i am. Which i cant exactly blame her for because i am. I put this on top of a burger and it tasted absolutely lovely and i think that it would be nice with quite a lot of other foods as well. If you like spicy or chilli things then i think that you will love this. I certainly do and i didn't even know a chilli mayonnaise existed before tonight. This is definitely something out of the ordinary and it was a smart idea from Branston because their range will appeal to even more people now. I am glad that i am aware of this mayonnaise now because i will be getting it all of the time. I know when something says it is chilli, it indicates that it is indeed chilli but when i get some things which say they are "they don't" taste overly hot at all. This however did and it tasted lovely too. I was shocked when i first tasted it because it burnt my tongue a bit but it wasn't so warm that it was off putting either. I would definitely recommend this and i think it is the nicest mayonnaise yet! I also believe that it is nicer than Hellmans and Heinz mayonnaise. After tasting this i will definitely be trying the other flavours on offer as well. I like the bottle as well and i think it is very handy because it is easy to squeeze and you get exactly the amount that that you need. I think that the world would be a better place if all bottles were like this.

              Price

                a different approach to mayonnaise

Last month saw my daughter's birthday, and to celebrate the event we were having a barbecue for friends and family. Whilst doing my shopping to get the goodies for everyone to eat, I spied a new range of mayonnaise by Branston sitting on the ends of the shelves in my local Morrison's. Mayonnaise with a twist, the bottle was shouting at me. There were a few to choose from but I chose the sweet chilli variety as most of my family like things with this added into it.

Immediately I thought this would make a nice change to add to burgers and sausages, and also later I found myself using it as a dip after realising I had forgotten to buy proper dip.
The bottle looks like a standard mayonnaise bottle. The lid was on the base of the bottle which I always like as it prevents waste at the end, especially from a thick sauce such as mayonnaise.
I could see through the bottle at the sauce within. It looked very appealing, and much like a speckled mayonnaise. There were plenty of red flecks going through the usual white sauce, and it looked as though a dye had run in streaks. It was actually quite pretty and I couldn't wait to try it.

I wouldn't let anyone open the mayonnaise until the day of the party when I bought it, and then I put some out in a dish without telling people what it was so they would try it. Some people can be funny about trying something different so it's best sometimes just to keep it from them I find until they try it and realise it's not that bad.
The bottle itself is a standard squeezy bottle, and I have found it to flow from the bottle at the right speed. Being a thick sauce, the mayonnaise comes from a small squeezy gap that opens once you squeeze the bottle. It doesn't run, and almost gloops in a pile where you are directing it.

Obviously the taste is the most important factor in any condiment but the appearance of the mayonnaise is very pretty when on a plate or on some food. I first tried some of the sauce with a side salad, and found the colours of the chilli was standing out against all the salad on my plate and making it look very summery.
I didn't find it had a particularly strong smell to the sauce, but I could get a slight tinge of sweetness from it.

Tasting for the first time was an experience all in its own right. My taste buds got two different sensations in very quick succession. First nano second you get a nice creamy sweetness, but it's soon followed with a strong kick of chilli. The first time I tried it, it really shocked me and I wasn't prepared for the strength of the chilli.
I found this to be true from most of my guests that day, especially as I had served it with vegetable sticks instead of dip, so a lot of people were scooping generous amounts and getting a shock once eating.
I found after a while that this sauce compliments meat as opposed to having as a sauce on your plate, so bear this in mind if you don't like strong sauces.

I paid £1.50 for my 295ml bottle of mayonnaise and I am finding due to its strength you don't need a large amount so it lasts quite a long time. A month later and we still have at least half a bottle left.
Per 100ml this mayonnaise will provide you with 472 calories and 42.4 grams of fat. Considering the small amounts you actually eat of this in one portion, the above figures are not that scary.

Overall I am pleased with my new purchase. It's nice to try new things, and we like it in small amounts as a family. There are other varieties we will try another time when ours has all gone.
