      The best mayo!

Up until a few years ago I had never really eaten mayonnaise, this was probably because my parents never purchased it when I lived at home. But now I love it, this is no good of course for my waist line as it is high in fat and calories but I try and only eat it occasionally. My favourite mayonnaise is Hellmann's and you can normally find a jar or squeeze bottle of it in my fridge.

My last purchase of the Hellmann's real mayonnaise was from Tesco where I managed to pick up a large 600g jar on special offer for just £1.50. Normally I would purchase a smaller jar but this was a great offer and almost the same price as the smallest jars.

The Hellmann's mayonnaise that I purchased as stated came in a jar which is made out of clear glass with a metal screw top cap. There is a paper label which wraps around the middle of the jar which has the Hellmann's logo on the front as well as a picture of a egg to allow you to see that the mayonnaise is made from free range eggs and is a source of omega 3. On the back of the jar you can find more detailed information about the mayonnaise including full ingredients listings, nutritional information, and a recipe idea. It also states that it is suitable for vegetarians and is made with pasteurised eggs.

Once you open the jar you need to store it in the fridge to keep it fresh. This mayonnaise is almost white in colour and very thick in consistency. The reason I like this mayonnaise so much is that it is so rich and creamy. It is also so versatile, I use it for all sorts of things including as a base for sandwich fillings, as an accompaniment to meals it can also be added to recipes like the mashed potato one on the side of the jar. One of my favourite things to do with it is to mix it with a small amount of English mustard to use on a ham or pork sandwich which tastes just delicious.

In my opinion this Hellmann's is certainly my favourite mayonnaise it is great quality, really creamy and has so many uses. The only downside is that it can be a little expensive but as it has quite a long shelf life before it is opened I wait for an offer to be on and stock up in advance!

        Can't be beaten

Having tried cheaper brands of mayonnaise in the past I've discovered that no other one comes close to matching the Hellmans on taste.

The great thing about this product is that its so versatile. I use it on lots of different meals and snacks, hot or cold. It's excellent on sandwiches, baked potatoes, chicken, chips, cheese, salad ect. The list just goes on and on really, I guess it's about personal taste.

Hellmans mayonnaise is something that's always in my fridge. It's so thick, smooth and creamy, simply delicious. Other brands may look very similar but what really sets this apart is the taste. I would certainly know right away if I was given a mayonnaise that wasn't Hellmans.

It comes in a jar with a screw top lid. If like me your environment conscious these can be recycled. Once the jar is opened it's advisable to keep it in the fridge to maintain it. It can be stored like this for up to 3 months after opening. This product is not suitable for freezing.

Hellmans uses free range eggs in the recipe so that's a bonus as a lot of people don't like the thought of using eggs these days that are produced from caged hens. It's a good natural source of omega 3. These are essential for human health and can help conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis etc. This product also is suitable for vegetarians.

On the jar is a very handy tip for what it can be used in. Things like adding it to a chocolate brownie mix or in your mashed potatoes, things that you would probably never have imagined adding this too. There are also details of their website to find out more recipe inspiration.

The only downside of this product is that is very high in calories and fat, so not great if you're watching your figure. However, I find that I don't tend to use a lot of this at a time, a little of this goes a long way.

The product is great value for money, something I would definitely recommend.

        The only mayo for me!

Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise... nothing else compares.

Over the years I have tried numerous brands of mayonnaise but none of them have ever been able to match Hellmann's. It is creamy and full of flavour. If I'm honest I don't really rate their 'light' mayo and being on a diet I'd rather have a smaller serving of this than any other. I've found that other brands have tasted greasy, eggy or more like a salad cream... and generally rank. Now days if the mayo isn't Hellmann's, it isn't going on my food, it is a brand I trust in and am therefore happy to remain a loyal customer.

It is available in virtually every major supermarket chain, in a variety of sizes. Originally in a glass jar, this mayo is now available in plastic squeezy bottles, which makes it convenient for use in picnics and bbqs and safer for kids.

It's no wonder, that it's the no. 1 mayonnaise brand in the UK.

Even If You Love Hellmans Light Try The Full Fat Version, It's The Best

I've never much thought about mayo, Hellmans Light is usually in our fridge but I'm not bothered if there's another brand or variety instead. I don't think I've ever had this full fat Hellmans before but today I've eaten mayo twice, once at home and again at my mates. We had Heinz today at home but my mate had this Hellmans and I could taste a massive difference in the creaminess of the mayos and preferred Hellmans by miles.

My mate did egg mayo but her idea of that is a boiled egg cut in half with a big dollop of mayo on the top. This original Hellmans is delish and compared to it our Heinz tasted just like the lighter Hellmans version. It's soooo creamy, refreshing and cool, the mayo is thick and tasty enough that you could eat it from the spoon without even getting any egg on with it!

THe texture is smooth and just perfect for mayo. I remember going to Strada and they put out wicked mayo and remember thinking how nice it was compared to Hellmans Light. If I'd have tried this original one I'd probably not have been so surprised at the richness of the loads tastier one in the restaurant!

I've gone mad on the stuff now. I brought a jar on the way home and even while I'm typing this I'm eating Mini Cheddars and mini breadsticks dipped in a bowl of Hellmans and it puts the light version proper in it's place! It's weird though because I always thought the light one was rich but's it's not the business compared to the real full fat thing!

Mine is in the jar and it's recyclable, but because I brought the big jar it won't get that far and my sister will probably naff it when it's empty for collecting grasshoppers in because that's her latest obsession since we moved from a madly built up area to nearly the country. lol

A Delicious Mayonnaise That Is Real!

I love having lots of different spreads and fillings for sandwiches and mayonnaise is one of those fridge/cupboard staples for me that can really help to round off a lunchtime deliciously.

The mayonnaise is provided in a glass jar with a metal screw top lid (both of which can be recycled) and there is 400g of mayonnaise in the jar for £1.69 from Sainsburys or 600g for £2.59 (currently available for £2.09 from Sainsburys stores).

This mayonnaise is designed to be kept in the fridge once opened as it is made with eggs.

There is a stonking 722 calories per 100g of this mayonnaise which is definitely something that needs to be enjoyed in moderation. This is the main thing that puts me off this mayonnaise and although I prefer it to any of the lighter versions the extra light version wins hands down for me as it's got under 100 calories per 100g so can be enjoyed a lot more often without feeling so guilty.

The taste is delicious, it's fantastic when cold as an addition to most meals. I like to have it with chicken, chips, in sandwiches, with jacket potatoes and there is really no end to the amount of things you can use this mayonnaise with, just have a little imagination! The taste is creamy and you can tell that this is real mayonnaise rather than any of the artificial mayonnaises that they try to pass off these days. It's the ideal accompaniment to a salad or a sandwich or even just slapped on some chicken with a bit of cheese & barbeque sauce for a different twist on Hunters Chicken.

I think this product is fantastic value for money and I would always recommend the Hellmanns variety over anything else as in my opinion it's the original and the best.

Once opened it should keep for a couple of weeks in the fridge but remember to read the label for further details as it's important to keep good standards with products like mayonnaise.

I am rating this product 5/5 as the packaging is recyclable and the product itself tastes delicious and does not let me down at all. I always feel a bit guilty about the amount of calories in this product but then again who cares, you only live once!

A delicious spread, which can be used for mixes with sandwiches and many other foods

I love Hellmann's mayonnaise as it has a lovely taste and goes very well with lots of different foods. I do actually prefer the Kraft one after a recent discovery that Kraft made mayonnaise, but Hellmann's will always be loved. It comes in a glass jar with a blue lid. There is a plastic seal round the lid, which is easily broken so you can screw open the lid.

The label round the jar is bright yellow with the Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise logo on a blue background. Once the jar is open, there is a wide opening to the mayonnaise, which you can use a spoon to dig out.

The mayonnaise has a thick consistency and it very wet with a slight shine. It has a white appearance and a faint smell, which doesn't smell like the taste (if that makes sense). Once the jar is almost finished, it's difficult to get out the last bits with a spoon, which is a drawback.

You can use this mayonnaise with loads of different foods. I use it with things such as meat in sandwiches, with tuna and cucumber for sandwiches, with egg and chives and black pepper for sandwiches, with ketchup for a delicious sauce for poultry and meat and more things too. It has plenty of uses and goes very well with lots of foods.

It has quite a sweet taste, which is a bit salty too. It's quite creamy and the normal one is high in fat too. However, it's a great accompaniment in a meal and goes very well with things for sandwiches such as egg and tuna. I'd recommend trying it out as it's a great name for mayonnaise and has a lovely taste. It's somewhat addicting too so you'll end up spreading it on anything you eat!

        Thanks for reading,

        Dan ©

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Great with lots of different food, try the lighter version if on a diet.

I am a huge fan of Hellman's 'real' mayonnaise, and I am pretty sure I would pass the taste test if I tried cheaper brands, I would guess straight away!

The taste of mayonnaise is very hard to explain. Its fairly creamy and neutral with a thick even consistency. The texture is very oily. Home made mayonnaise is made with unpasturised eggs, however due to health reasons this is made from pasteurised eggs and this makes me a lot more comfortable, and is then also edible by pregnant women.

It is hard to tell what sets this mayonnaise apart from all other brands, there is definitely something, and I would never eat an inferior brand to save half the price. The taste is very different and it is possible that this is because Hellman's mayonnaise uses free range eggs, which to me is a selling point in itself.

Mayonnaise goes with a wide variety of dishes hot and cold including salads, but be careful not to get the mayonnaise itself hot as it seems to melt irreversibly into its oily consistency and that is not very nice! Mayonnaise can also be used to make other things to eat, such as sauce for prawns, by mixing with Ketchup.

Always keep mayonnaise in the fridge once purchased to prolong its shelf life!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Highly Recommended and Worth Every Penny

Does it really matter what brand of mayo you put on your burger? Does it really make any difference whether you spent £1.50 on your jar of mayonnaise or 50p? I think it does, yes. I've been forced to endure many different brands of mayonnaise over the years, but every time I come back to asking the Mrs to please just go out and get some more Hellmanns!

Hellmann's promotes itself as being a "real" mayonnaise and I'm not quite sure what that means if I'm honest. Homemade mayonnaise is made with unpasturised eggs, and this uses pasturised ones for health safety reasons. So it's not like this is simlar to homemade mayo exactly.

It's not watered down and pumped full of additives and chemicals like some mayonnaises are. The ingredients list is quite short: Vegetable Oil (77%), Water, Pasteurised Egg & Egg Yolk (8%), Spirit Vinegar, Salt, Sugar, Lemon Juice, Mustard Flavouring, Antioxidant (Calcium Disodium EDTA), Paprika Extract (nicked from the Tesco website).

Using lots of good quality natural ingredients (like free range eggs) instead of whacking a load of flavour enhancers into their product is what makes this product really stand out from the crowd. The result is a thick, creamy and mildly tangy taste that I just can't get enough of onto my burger and chips! The thick texture is just perfect for dunking chips into as it coats the chip without running off or coming up in a clump.

I can even say that I've tried the light version of this and like that almost as much. In fact it's the only light mayo I can say I will even eat let alone like. A 200g jar of this is 93p or a 400g jar is £1.60. I really do think this is worth every penny and considering we only use a jar every few weeks in our house, I don't see the need to put up with a cheap inferior store's own version just to save 20p a fortnight.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

tastes like home-made but without the hassle

We really like 'real' mayonnaise in our family as opposed to salad cream, but if you've ever made it from scratch you'll know how time-consuming it can be to make your own.

I was introduced to Hellman's years ago by an American friend & although there are cheaper versions on the market I think this may is the best to date.

They do a variety of mayonnaises now including Real Mayonnaise, Light, Extra Light & Mayonnaise with Olive Oil. They are now available in squeezy plastic jars as well as the original glass jars.

We use quite a lot so I buy the 600g light for £2.59 from Tesco but there are 200g & 400g jars if you don't eat it very often.

I use it in sandwiches instead of butter (lovely with ham & other cold meats), mix it with tuna & a little black pepper, with chopped egg to make egg mayonnaise, use it as a base for dips & dunks or just as a topping for salads. It's really useful to have in the fridge if you want to just 'liven up' a burger or buttie & you can cook with it.

Mostly I use it for my potato salad recipe which is great for all year round as well as when eating al fresco or at BBQs - it's easy to make & much cheaper than buying in tubs at the supermarket.

RECIPE (can be adapted to feed as many as you like - this would serve about 6 people)
              Ingredients
              ~
              - 8 medium potatoes, washed but not peeled
              - about 200g Hellmans mayo
              - 4 -6 sweet cucumers/ gherkins
              - few tablespoons of the juice from the above
              - chopped cooked chicken if desired.

              method
              ~
              - Cook the potatoes in boiling water for about 10 -12 minutes ( very slightly undercooked) & leave to cool.
              - chop up the gherkins/ sweet cucmbers into small chunks & pop in a serving dish.
              - add the jar of Hellman's & the juice from cucumbers.
              - add chopped chicken if you want.
              - dice the cold potatoes & add to the mixture stirring carefully.
              - put in fridge until ready to eat.

I don't like the squeezy jars - they're OK when first opened but I find it's really hard to squeeze the more you use so there's mayo at the bottom which you can't get out. The jars, however, are great because you can use them afterwards because of the size & quality.

They have a a scew-top lid which is easy to open wnen you've removed the plastic seal.

The colour is just about the same as you'd achieve if you were making your own.

The consistency is lovely & think & there's no water/ oil sitting on the top which means you can dive straight in.

The taste, in my opinion, is perfect - just as good as home-made but without the hassle. It's not too strong nor too mild.

The ingredients, nutritional values & storage directions are clearly listed on the reverse label of the jar. I won't bore you with them, but just to let you know that 1 tablespoon of the Light is only 45 calories & 4.5g of fat which is good to know if, like me, you are watching your weight?

              summary
              ~
              - versatile, tasty, great consistency.
              - well packaged.
              - good value.
              - I prefer this to any other mayonnaise as it's the nearest I've found to home-made.

                Disadvantages

                Gorgeous mayo!

I'm a really saucy bird, so I am lol! I love a variety of different sauces and condiments on my meals and mayonnaise is a firm favourite with me on chicken burgers, to dip my chicken dippers in, on fish finger sandwiches and on salads etc. I would hate to be without it and I regularly eat it!

                The Jar....

Comes in a variety of different sizes which in 800g, 600g, 400g, 200g and not just in this full fat variety but also the light. Both the full fat and light varieties are available in 350ml and 650ml squeezy bottles. Plenty of choice is available from Hellmann's!

I have the full fat variety in the 200ml glass jar with a dark blue and bright yellow twist on/off tin lid and on that I'm told it's Hellmann's in white writing. The label around it's middle is in a light yellow colour with a patch of dark blue and on that again in white writing I'm told it's Hellmann's then I'm told 'Bring out the best' and told it's 'Real Mayonnaise' and that it is a good natural source of Omega and that it's made of free range eggs and along the side of the jar there is an at a glance nutritional chart is there. On the back of the label there is plenty of information given including a bit about the product, ingredients are listed, storage details are given, nutritional information is stated, the best before date is stamped on in black, I'm told it's suitable for vegetarians, the size and recycle symbol are displayed, contact details for Unilever are given (the manufacturer of Hellmann's products) and finally there is a bar-code on there. All in all the jar is nothing special but it's really ok. I do like the fact I can see through the jar so that I know when it needs replacing so I never have an excuse to run out!

A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Jar....

Made with pasteurized egg. Your food deserves the best! Hellmann's Real is the original mayonnaise - thick, smooth and delicious. It's also a good natural source of Omega 3.

                The Mayonnaise....

The white mayonnaise isn't as thick as I'd expected when I first bought a jar. When you get a jar it isn't 'set' as such but you can get it out of the jar easily. Even on hot food it doesn't melt but it is quite moist and gloopy anyway. This isn't a complaint by the way. I personally love the consistency of it and at the same time it isn't runny!

Smell wise.... well it whiffs quite a bit in the jar but doesn't particularly smell once on food. In the jar it smells creamy really. You can smell a hint of the mustard and vinegar and it smells pleasant enough and basically like mayonnaise!

Taste wise it's lovely and to me it tastes thicker than it looks. It's tangy and fresh and and is quite greasy created a greasy type of film in the mouth when your eating it. Again this isn't a complaint! It has a creamy slightly salty and sweet taste and is seasoned very well. It's smooth in the mouth has a taste of egg, lemon and vinegar and has a slight sourness to it and then melts in the mouth, leaving no after taste at all. It has alot to it taste wise and really does taste like a fresh mayonnaise and is full of flavour and compliments food really well cos although it's quite strong in flavours and distinctive it really isn't over powering in the taste stakes.

                Conclusion....

Fantastic on every level. There really is no comparison between this and shops owns brands in my humble opinion. It's tasty and rich and I love the way it leaves no nasty aftertaste or makes me thirsty when I'm eating it or afterwards. It's great!

                Ingredients....

Vegetable Oil (77%), Water, Pasteurised Egg & Egg Yolk (8%), Spirit Vinegar, Salt, Sugar, Lemon Juice, Mustard Flavouring, Antioxidant (Calcium Disodium EDTA), Paprika Extract.

Available in most supermarkets and convenience stores. My 200g cost me 96p in Sainsbury's but I could have bought other sizes.... 400g £1.79, 600g £2.59 or the 800g size (biggest available) would have set me back £3.14.

                  Disadvantages

A delicious condiment, which is used in cooking, as a side sauce and more!

Helman's Mayonnaise is a delicious spread, which can be used in cooking or in sandwiches or even as a side sauce for some food. It comes in a glass jar with a yellow label, which has a blue part with the Helman's Mayonnaise logo. The jar is full to the top with white mayonnaise, which has a somewhat thick consistency. The lid is metal and blue and quite easily comes off once you break the plastic seal and unscrew it.

Helman's mayonaise isn't really good for you, unless you buy the light version. It has a lot of salt in it and egg with much carbohydrate so you can put on weight pretty easily if you eat too much. It has a great taste though and goes well with a lot of foods (more so than other sauces). I even use it nowadays to substitute butter (I know it's bad) on my sandwiches as it's rather like a spread but gives a wonderful flavour too.

Other things it goes well with is tuna, black pepper and cucumber. Chuck in some Helman's to bind it all together and give it a lovely taste before putting some in a sandwich for a tasty snack. It also goes well with chicken, boiled potatos and vegetables too with your dinner. I once tried mixing it with the all-famous Heinz Tomato Ketchup and it made a lovely mix of flavours, which tasted great with the breaded chicken I was eating. This really is a lovely sauce and isn't too expensive. It goes well with a lot of foods and I can't live without it personally!

                  Thanks for reading

                    we love it

Hellmann's Mayonnaise it's got to be the best out there. Now i've tried to get my son to eat a cheaper brand and also we have all tried cheaper ones but i have to say nothing comes close to it.

I've even tried putting other cheaper ones in a Hellmanns jar but he always knows i've done it ha! i'm sure we have all done this with different things.

But he is right it's just so much more creamy than others. You can use it in all types of recipes and it's just so versitile on hot or cold sandwiches. The only problem is as we all know it can be quite fattening if used alot which he tends to do.

Now they do use free range eggs which makes me feel not as guilty and and is supposed to be a good source of Omega 3 don't know whether i'm convince about that.

                    Now for the bad bit:
                    1 tablesoon 14grams 101 calories (ouch)

I think i will have to move to the light mayonnaise if i want to be parading on the beach in the summer. T be honest i think we all will'just have to transfer it to the into the original mayonnaise jar ha!

Brightens up any meal and delicious tasting

Hellmann's mayonnaise can be bought in full fat or lighter version. Its made with free range eggs, rapeseed oil and vinegar and is a great source of omega three which helps keep your heart and brain healthy.

Hellmann's can be bought from most supermarkets and once opened can be stored in the fridge for about a month. At the moment it costs 89p at our local asda.

The great thing about Hellmann's is that it goes with anything; boiled potatoes, sandwiches, pizza, pasta and salads are just a few. The mayo is thick and rich and has a great taste to it. It seems to go further than standard mayonaises.

One of my favourite quick pasta dishes is tuna, sweetcorn, Hellmanns mayonaise and cheese. Just mix together with cooked pasta and it tastes great; the mayo seems to bind everything together. Overall it's delicious, healthly and it brightens up the most boring of meals.

                      Advantages

                      Disadvantages

Hellman's mayo may seem initially to be dearer than say an enormous jar of a supermarket's own brand - however unless you have an unusually large family you will not use all of this before the expiry date. Cheap mayo lasts approx four weeks in the fridge whereas hellman's lasts three months. So i buy a small jar of Light hellman's and make a great sandwich filler of a few spoonfuls plus tuna plus sweetcorn and this is cheaper than buying the Weight watchers tins of it.
