Mega Bloks Construction Site Building Block Bucket
by Whizz11
I haven't been the biggest fan of Mega Bloks in the past. We have quite a few of the bags of just blocks and I don't know whether its because I'm not very creative but all I can really seem to do with these regular blocks is just build big towers by putting each block on top of each other and that is it. Of course, my little boy and I ... have fun building a tower and knocking it over again but its not the same as being able to make shapes or animals or cars, etc.
Mega Bloks are basically bigger looking lego pieces for little people as they look just like lego although they are quite a bit bigger than that which allows babies and smaller children to play with the pieces without the fear of swallowing them or choking on them. The blocks in this set come in different sizes. There are blocks with two knobs, four knobs and eight knobs and some of them are thin and some are thick. There are also a couple pieces which are just one knob. What I like about the bricks is that they are well made, they are made of good quality, thick plastic and will last forever. They are nice and colourful and eyecatching too and are great primary colours such as blue, red, orange and yellow.
Thats not to say I don't like mega bloks, I think they are a great toy for educational and developmental value. They can really catch a little persons imagination and they provide a lot of fun. I fine this set a bit different than just the regular bloks though which is why I really like this one and so does my little boy.
To begin with the set comes in a really cool plastic box with an orange lid that looks like one of the bricks on the top of it, with six little knobs. The set actually does something as it is classified as a construction set and shows a picture on the front of the box of what sort of road construction you can make. There are quite a few stickers that come with this set to make the bloks a bit more exciting. There are stickers with little men at works signs, some that turn the bloks into road construction cones and some with hazard warning signs on them.
The set also comes with a little car and a small boy in the car so you can play with him and zoom him around the construction site and under the bridges etc. The little boy comes out of the car so you can play with him separately if you want. We definitely have more fun building things with this set than we do with the other mega bloks set and I think its given my boy some ideas on building and assembling things so I would definitely recommend it for your little builders. Mega Bloks Building Blocks Bag
by Ninski1
My son was given this bag of Mega Blocs for his second birthday and he has had great fun playing with them. The bag is currently retailing on Amazon for £19.99 (December 2012).
The Mega Blocs come in a large clear pvc plastic, durable bag, that is easily zipped up and very useful for storing the blocs when not in use. There ... are 70 maxi blocs in the bag and they range in size and shape. They include small 1 brick blocs and larger 4 brick blocs, some are thinner than others and they come in red, blue, green and yellow. The set is also available in pink, if you would prefer.
They are easy to fit together and also pull apart for small hands and as they are chunky they are easy to hold and also pretty safe, due to their size. I found that at first my son would just build towers, but as he has got older he builds are imaginative things. As they are a Mega Blocs brand they also fit with other Mega Blocs products, my son has a pirate ship and he can use them together to build other things.
They are also easy to clean with either a wipe or if necessary by chucking them all in the sink with a washing up liquid, swishing them around and leaving them to dry on the draining board.
Overall I think these blocs are great as they provide an introduction to building at an early stage, so this helps with coordination and imagination, they are easy to use, colourful and easy to clean. They can be used across the Mega Blocs range and they are also well priced. Overall I would recommend them to others. Read the complete review |

Mega Bloks Building Blocks Bag
by miwa
Like many parents and carers who have young children around, I find myself spending more time playing with my niece's toys than she does. These Mega Bloks were an early addition to her toy chest at our house, and as early as 10 months old she was attempting to pick up the blocks, progressing to gnawing at the blocks or carrying them ... around in her mouth as she began to teeth.
There are several kinds of block in this "bag" pack - some are square, some are shorter than others, some are long, but most fit together quite easily. All are painted in the same three simple primary colours. As I mentioned, my niece is a chewer, but these blocks are pretty sturdy and have never lost their colour or warped under stress. I would estimate there are about 15-20 pieces in a bag.
I think the clear plastic bag these blocks come in is a good idea theoretically, but in practice, my niece often tries to put it over her head. While this is endearing to me, it gives my mum a heart attack (and rightly so). The other problem with the bag is that you can't just sling the blocks in willy-nilly, you almost have to build up architectural experience to be able to fit all the blocks in the bag and be able to zip it up. It's not a huge complaint, but it means cleaning up after the baby takes longer than I feel it ought to for a single toy (and believe me, she has many).
As for playtime, I spend a lot of time trying to build something to amuse my niece. Though she is just past the 12 month mark, she has trouble actually fitting the blocks together - though she has no problem, once I have finished with my block sculpture, to destroy it immediately and with great gusto. We have made houses for her plastic animals as well as goal posts for the little balls she likes rolling along the floor. However, despite their versatility, these blocks do not go very far when building things, as they are quite fat, and there are not as many blocks in a bag as you might first think. I would have rather the blocks have been smaller and more of them, rather than have them be like overblown lego and have trouble building anything more than a low square outline as a 'house'! However my niece seems not to mind...
I think these are a pretty good gift for toddlers, especially those still in the stage where everything goes in their mouth, as they are big enough not to swallow. As for being £9.99, I am not sure they are worth the full RRP considering how little they can build (maybe buying two bags is a good idea), but if you can find them discounted or in a sale, they are definitely worth a look! I imagine they build coordination in toddlers, but more importantly they are hours of fun for the children...and not so young people too. Read the complete review |
