Advantages: Different colours, imagination
Disadvantages: Don't make cool things
My daughter received this bag of building blocks for her first birthday a few years ago now and they are good but not something we have really played with that often and to be honest I find it quite hard to be creative with them as I think they are quite one dimensional in my opinion and I have never really figured out how to build anything more than a stacked tower with them.
I would call them lego pieces for little people as they look just like lego although they are quite a bit bigger than that which allows babies and smaller children to play with the pieces without the fear of swallowing them or choking on them. The blocks are no where near as clever and exciting as Lego though and you cannot make the same sort of figures and models as you can with Lego.
This toy is a 70-piece Maxi block Bag which is said to provide children with hours of imaginative creation and fun learning. The blocks are big chunky building blocks and have quite large knobs on them, I guess that is the best word for them so you can attach one on top of each other. The blocks come in four different primary colours, red, yellow, blue and green. The colours are bold and colourful and I think this is good as it teaches kids about their colours. In fact on the plastic bag that these blocks come in it says, "the blocks offer endless possibilities and that they are, "building minds at play." It also says that they encourage fine motor skills, creativity and imagination and help with colours and shapes. This I definitely have to agree with.
The blocks come in different sizes. There are blocks with two knobs, four knobs and eight knobs and some of them are thin and some are thick. There are also a couple pieces which are just one knob and then there are some with a curved edge so you can make a design with them. The bricks are well made, they are made of good quality, thick plastic and will last forever.
The plastic bag that the bricks come in is really handy for storage as you can just zip it shut once they are all in the bag and then carry it around or store it until you play with it the next time. There is also a fabric handle at the top which allows you to carry it easily.
However, here is my issue with these bricks, I just don't think they make really good designs and models. On the side of the bag there are a couple of construction ideas in picture form but to me they just look a bit of a mess and a big jumble and just a mish mash of bricks that doesn't really look like anything. There are not enough of each colour to make one thing in any one colour and it just looks a bit naff in my opinion but perhaps thats because I don't have the imagination mind of a one year old and they may think its amazing.
