Advantages: bright, easy for little hands to hold, suit a range of ages, good value

Disadvantages: none

My son has two of these bags from mega bloks. The reason for having two is that my brother went shopping for a birthday present for his nephew and forgot that he and his wife had bought him the exact same thing previosuly for Christmas! We have now built up quite a collection of mega blocks items for my son, good job he likes them!

The blocks are like large pieces of lego. They are recommended for ages 1 and over. Being a nice chunky size means that they are easy for little hands to hold. They vary in size and come in a mix of primary colours which means that whilst playing children can learn the concepts of colour and size, especially if you play with them and talk about these things. At a younger age (around 1 year) my son was quite content to hold and manipulate the blocks in his hands or bash them together. By 18 months he was fascinated with pushing the blocks together to make big towers. Now over 2 years, he likes to use his imagination, he will build what he says is a car and drive it across the table for example. My daughter used to have some of these too and she played with her blocks until she was 5 or 6, so my son should get quite a few years of play out of these yet. To be honest, I think at 11 my daughter still likes to play with these! These blocks have also proved to be a hit with my niece and nephew (who are 4 and 5) when they visit, so they are certainly good for quite a wide range of ages and go down well with girls and boys.

There is quite a large range of things from Mega Bloks which are all compatible. The 70 blocks in the bag are plenty to build and play with, but as we have a truck, a red wagon and an extra set of blocks too we find that there is a huge amount of possibilities for playing with these blocks.

The bag the blocks come in is the only packaging which I think is great, no rubbish and waste! The bag is made from a nice and strong, yet flexible plastic and both of ours are still in great condition after a year or more. They are very handy for storing the blocks in, meaning that I don't have to worry about where to store all these blocks! The bag also makes the blocks nice and easy to take with us if we're visiting people, it has a handle on the top so it's easy to throw in the car or slip over a pushchair handle to take along anywhere.

The blocks are a good quality and I have never had any problems with them becoming damaged or broken, even with a very over enthusiastic toddler.

The blocks are a reasonable price, but it's usually worth having a good look around as they can vary a bit from shop to shop. Argos currently have them at £14.99 but I have seen them included in their 2 for £15 offer in the past. Tesco sell this size bag for just £9.97. I have seen these for sale in most places that sell toys, so they are easy to find both online and in shops. Considering just how long these blocks last and the entertainment value they have I really do think that they are fantastic value for money

Summary: A good toy which will last well.
