==Mega Blocks Building Block Bag==
Having recently had a big sort out of all Jack's old toys that would be suitable for the arrival of another little boy any time soon I unearthed some toys that Jack was keen to start playing with again even though I have had them packed up for a little while (always typical isn't it?!).
These Mega Blocks were a really great purchase of mine and Jack has had tons of use from them and is again enjoying playing with them combined with his cars and little soldiers. I remember purchasing them from my local Woolworths shop a good few years ago and I know I paid £14 for the bag as the sticky price label is still stuck to the outside of the plastic zip bag that the blocks are held in. if you were looking to buy this bag of bricks now you can still get them for around the same price online if you are prepared to have a second hand bag although for a brand new bag you are looking at paying into the early £20 to £25 which is still not a bad price for the product.
There are 80 different types of coloured and sized blocks that come in this bag and the colours range from blue, green, yellow to red. I remember a friend of mine buying a bag for her little girl and she was able to get a bag that had a lot of pinks and whites in and was generally more girl friendly although this bag of multicoloured bricks is not necessarily aimed at boys as both sexes can play with the bricks and have just as much fun.
The fact that these bricks come in a really handy bag makes for such an easy to store and to pack away toy that I wished all toys were as easy to pack up. The bag is made of a rather thick and very hard wearing plastic and there is a red strong zip that goes all around the top sides of the bag giving it a sort of lid which flips back to get the bricks out or to put them away.
The bricks inside are much like super large Lego bricks but with a more rounded nob on the top of each one which allows them to be fitted together and built into anything you can imagine (with 80 bricks anyway). Of course Jack loved to make just single towers when he was smaller and see if he could stack them taller than he was and as he advanced he was able to make small castle like buildings although 80 bricks does leave you somewhat limited when it comes to making something on the larger scale.
The range of brick shapes in the bag is not bad either and there are plenty of single bricks, double nobbed bricks and even three and four nobbed bricks which makes for a more fun range of possibilities.
I was quite surprised when Jack started using these bricks again after having got them out of mums loft where they have been for a year or so especially as he is really into his smaller and far more complex Lego building now. However I can see the appeal as the large and chunky bricks did make a nice looking garage for his cars to drive in and out of and even though he is 5 and a half he seemed to enjoy using these bricks as much as he did when he was 18 months. There isn't an age range stated on the bag but I would say the fact that the bricks are so chunky and easy to handle would make them suitable for any child over 12 months.
The fact that these bricks have had such a lot of play when Jack was younger and then survived a year in the loft and come out for more play and they still look pretty much as good as new means that this really is a toy that is built to last and I am sure will survive another good few years being played with by the next little man that comes along. The only bad thing I can think about when buying this product is that sometimes there really isn't enough of the bricks in the 80 piece bag but I do believe you can buy a bag which has 120 bricks in and I think if I were to be buying it again I would most likely opt for the slightly bigger bag so that more buildings can be made from the set.
All in all though I must say that these bricks are well worth the money and have a lasting playability to them. They are sturdy and easy to store and suitable for child of all ages. The possibilities of play really is as big as you can think and only needs a bit of imagination to make the bricks into something super fun. It has to be a tops core rating of 5 out of 5 stars and a high recommendation from me (and of course from Jack too!)
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read
Summary: a great set of bricks
