Mega Bloks Building Blocks Bag
Advantages: versatile and fun.
Disadvantages: constantly treading on them...
For my son's birthday I wanted to get him something both educational and fun and these seemed to cover both bases. They come in a transparent zip up oval bag which is surprisingly hardy, my son has had these since June and the bag is still going strong. It also makes packing them away easy and they are nice and tidy. My son even enjoys tidying these up as part of a game. The blocks are quite large and this makes it easy to balance them when building, they are essentially the first step towards Lego. There are seventy blocks in the bag and they are all very brightly coloured in red, blue, yellow and green. They are perfect for little hands to hold and push together easily for them to be able to build anything. They are a selection of sizes in the bag and this gives more options for building. They are designed for one year plus and my two and a half year old still gets a tremendous amount of use and fun out of them. His brother also likes to play with them at age ten and they play lovely together. Although my oldest would rather play with Lego, he knows his brother can't play with him if he plays with Lego so they play together with the megabloks.
Both the bag and the blocks are plastic making them extremely easy to clean with a wipe down with Dettol. There is only one problem and that is they hurt, I have stepped on them so many times and they do hurt...lol! We have had a few crashes with my son trying to build towers to tall and them landing on him but they are so light that he has not been hurt and laughs and does it again. He thinks in it is great fun to watch them all tumble. I have laminate and they don't damage this in the way wooden blocks can. When my son has friends to visit they always seem to fish these out first, and are one of his favourite toys, and mercifully it is a quiet toy...lol!
I have even used these to teach colours and groups with my kids and they will come in handy when teaching my youngest to add up etc.
I bought mine from asda for just under £14.00 but they are available on amazon for around £15.00 both of which are great prices for such a versatile and impressive toy. There are smaller 24 block bags available, but my boys love building things and I thought this would limit them.
Overall a fantastic buy and would highly recommend. They are extremely versatile and fun.
Summary: A versatile and fun educational toy.
