We bought our son a mega pack containing 4 different Mega Blok sets from the disney cars range (including this set) for £30 last year from Tesco. This was excellent value as this Luigi set normally retails for approx £10 just by itself.
Although originally bought for our 4 year old son, our 8 year old daughter seemed to get just as much enjoyment from making up the set and then changing around the pieces to create different senarios. Actually thinking about it Daddy and I got in on the act too and played for hours with the kids using this and the other kits in the range.
The plastic blocks themselves are really well made and are easily fitted together by small hands so cause no frustration for the child (unlike some other cheaper blocks similar to these which are difficult to clip together).
The Luigi car which comes with the set is good too as the wheels actually work so the car can be wheeled and pushed around the scene made with the blocks.
Many a time I have lsitened to my son re-enacting the film using this set which I think is lovely to see and it really does encourage imaginative play.
I think by itself this set would be ok but the play value is definately enhanced by having two or three (or like us - even more) of these sets to use altogether.
As I said in my previous reviews, our grandson got four packs from the Mega Bloks Disney Cars series as part of a value pack that cost £30 from Tesco. To buy Luigi's Garage on its own it costs £9.78 from Amazon which I think is quite reasonable for a branded playset like this. It's a lot cheaper than if you bought it made by Lego Duplo at least!
The first thing that should be noted with this set is that there are NO instructions on how to build Luigi's garage. There is a picture on the front that an adult can just about follow (some of the construction is obscured as you can only see the build from the front) but I doubt a young child could work out what goes at the back just by looking at the picture on the front. I think that's a bit of a let down as the other sets in this range have great little instruction booklets.
Despite that, this is a nice set and the bricks included are interesting and easy for youngsters to get on with. There are two side pieces included and one has a hinged door fixed into it. Then there are tyre bricks, a couple of roof bricks, a pole brick and a few other accessories as well as the bricks needed to build the Luigi car.
Although there are no specific instructions on what to build with this set, there are a few options that work so on the good side of things, at least little builders can experiment by building up the garage in several different ways. I think this is very good for the money but it does have a few drawbacks.
