All of my children love any type of building blocks, and since overtime we have owned a number of megabloks toys which have been fantastic. When I came across the mega blocks first builder's bag at just £10 on Amazon I quickly snapped them up for my little girl. The first builder's bags from megabloks come in different sizes, and the version I will be reviewing is the bag containing 100 pieces. As the name suggests it is the perfect starting point for young children just starting out with megabloks and building games.
Megabloks are basically a larger version of Lego and Lego duplo, and it has the same push and click system but the size of the blocks makes them more suitable for very young children. The recommended age range for these bags is between one year and five years old. When the bag arrived it is a good size and I was impressed with the fact that it had a reusable seal so all of the blocks can be placed back inside and done back up. This makes it perfect for storage and we did not need to find somewhere for the 100 blocks to be stored once opened.
Inside the bag you receive a number of different colour blocks; they come in variations of sizes and shapes. There is everything from 4 blocks in a line to four blocks in a square, to one block on its own. This means you can use the blocks to build just about anything you want and create different shapes and sizes. The different edges also mean that you can create different shapes and sizes.
We purchased these for my little girl who was just over one year old at the time. The blocks are a lot bigger than other building blocks and as they are plastic they are a perfect size for little children to hold and play with. The pieces all push into each other very easily so even the smallest of hands can get them to click together with ease. When it comes to taking them apart again it is just as easy and most of the time she likes to do this independently. There are times when she finds two bricks are a little hard to ease apart, but generally she enjoys playing independently.
That's the perfect thing about this bag, as there are 100 pieces my little girl can play by herself, with her siblings and mummy and daddy can even get involved. It is something that children can play with independently to build confidence, but also something that we can play together with and watch her learning along the way. All of my children can play together without needing to argue over the bricks and we find that the 100 pieces is more than enough for anything they want to build.
The blocks help promote eye hand co-ordination as they have to be placed inside each other and clicked into place; you can also promote counting with them and of course colours. There are pieces that have a curved edge, others a straight edge so everything about them promotes educational values in some way. The best thing about them is little one just has fun and doesn't have a clue about the additional things they are learning along the way. They are also perfect for imaginative play as your child has the free choice of what to build and how.
My little girl will sit for hours just placing the blocks together and taking them apart again. At the moment she just tends to build to bricks into as big a tower as possible, until it falls on the floor which she enjoys just as much as building them up. She will sit for huge amounts of time just building over and over again and plays with them frequently throughout the day. It is not just my youngest little girl that loves these blocks, as all of my children absolutely love playing with these blocks. While they hold my little girls attention most they appeal to a wide age range and can be used in different ways. As she gets older she may be more objective with what she wants to build, but at the moment she is more than happy with her simple yet amazing creations.
I would highly recommend this first builders bag to anyone with a young baby or toddler in their house. They are fantastic fun for my children, promote educational values and keep my children entertained for hours at a time. My little girl absolutely loves them and these are something that she plays with everyday. They are perfect for play independently, as a group and as a family and really are perfect for first building blocks. The bag makes storage easy, and the 100 pieces provide more than enough bricks for just about anything your child could wish to build. Usual retail is £25 but they are often on offer, and they are currently on sale for around £15 on Amazon.
~*~*~ Mega Bloks First Builders Bag ~*~*~
~ What are they? ~
These are giant building blocks, an over sized Lego if you like. These are great for toddlers as they don't pose a choking hazard like the smaller bricks.
~ Why I bought them ~
Over the years I have always had Mega Bloks around the house as I have that they are a good sturdy learning toy for the boys. I recently picked up a bag of these First Builders blocks for my youngest son. We have the odd few laying around the house in various toy boxes but not really enough to have fun with so I went down to Argos and bought these.
~ The blocks ~
What I like about these is that they come in their own bag for storage when not in use, it's not too bulky and now lives down the side of the sofa when not in use but my son tends to drag them out everyday. He even knows to put them away when finished and plops them back into the bag and calls me over to zip it up.
The blocks are nice and bright and very sturdy, I don't ever recall having one break! My son likes to build them up into towers and has hours of fun knocking them all over again, this seems to be what he likes the most about them lol.
He had been able to build them together for quite some time now but there was a time when he preferred to simply chew on the corner of a block, he doesn't feel the need to do this now so it is mainly building and bashing. He tends to build them up on the coffee table and bashes them over to the floor and this has had no ill effects on the blocks what so ever, they haven't marked or dented or even broke which I think is a great thing.
There are some design on the bag for you to try and make but my son hasn't attempted any yet, and prefers to make his own things.
The blocks are nice and chunky for little hands and my son uses them with ease.
There's 60 blocks in the bag and I think this is a good amount.
Hours of fun and will last for years!
I would recommend for all children. The colours are nice and bright and suitable for either girls or boys.
Thanks for reading :o) x
My one and a half year old son received this as a present from a family member so can't comment on price. Until this gift he didn't have any other building brick style toys (has since received duplo)
It comes in a handy zip up storage bag with plastic handle on the top. The pack contains a mix of 1 block pieces, 2 and 4 block pieces as well as slimmer half depth pieces. There are also a few sloping pieces to add shape to your designs.
The blocks come in a mix of bright colours including 2 shades of blue, yellow, red and green, which are made of sturdy plastic.
My son finds it very easy to pick up, move and fit together these blocks. They are chunky so he can get a good grip on them and they fit together very easily and once stacked together they fit snuggly so are secure. My son enjoys making tall slim towers and he can actually make it quite tall with a very small base, this allows him to develop his building skills, hand to eye coordination and also have fun without becoming frustrated with it falling over all of the time (we play with this in our living room which is carpeted and the base sits securely)
This toy has helped teach my son his colours, I will ask him to pass me the blue brick, green etc It also helps with counting, you can count how many blocks you have used, or how many yellow blocks, as well as couting the individual pieces and what size piece they are (he is getting very good with us asking him to pass us a single block, or can we have a 2 piece block)
On the back of the storage bag it has some design suggestions which my son and husband have enjoyed building together and comparing with the given picture.
A great toy I would recommend to anyone.
I can remember playing with building blocks like this as a very young child in nursery some 26 years ago now so these have been a popular and favorite toy for children for many years now but as a child I never had any at home so when I saw these in a toy store I just had to have them for my daughters, when I purchased mine they were £19.99 but have seen them available on offer these days for between £9.99 to £14.99 which is a really reasonable price.
These came in the bag pictured above but the zip on it wasnt the best quality and with it being used by rough young children it only lasted about six months before the zip broke but I didnt mind as I did not buy it for the storage bag so simply put them in a plastic storage box these days.
They are available in the standard colours above or in a very girly pink pack too, we have both as someone else brought the pink ones a couple of years later as a christmas present but even though I have five girls they dont have any preference over which colour they use but a boy may object to being brought the pink version.
In the bag you get 60 building blocks of varying size to play with and it says these are designed for children aged 1 to 5 years, if your one year old is advanced then yes but Casey has only just mastered using these and connecting them together a month after her second birthday, the upper age limit of five I think is there assuming you will change to smaller lego at that point but my two older daughters at aged 9 and 10 will quite happily spend an hour or so playing with these when they are out.
The children have had years of fun out of these and they still look as good as the day they were brought so are a one off purchase that you will never have to replace due to them being so well made. They are a lot of fun to play with and have to confess to having joined in my self in the past with the children. I woud recomend these to all parents.
I bought these megabloks when my son was around 10 months old. I picked them up in Tescos, and a bag cost me around £14, but have since bought more on Amazon, which cost me £12. I have got three bags of these megabloks now, my son absolutely loves them! These and his megabloks table, are his favourite toys at the moment. He is now 17 months old and is a proper little boy, he loves building with these megabloks.
The megabloks come in a plastic carry-able bag, it has a handle on the top, which is great to carry them about with you. We always take a bag of these away with us when we visit family, and they stay all together ans safe in the bag. The megabloks come in all different sizes, and colours. The colours are bright, eye catching, and can be for a boy or a girl. There are green, yellow, blue, orange, pink or red.
These megabloks are big, chunky blocks, and my son had no problem holding them at a young age. They are great for little hands to grip, and my son instantly recognises a megablok now when he sees one, he points straight at it, no matter where he finds it, even if it is in a totally different room, he picks it up and takes it straight to his megabloks table! I just think that is so clever for a 17 month old! I really think these megabloks make him think and work things out. You can see him trying to figure out how to fit a blok onto another by turning it, or looking for a different size megablok.
These are really lightweight, and so easy to clean. I just put all mine in the bath with hot soapy water altogether now and again then just leave them to dry. These make great bath toys too! My son always takes some of these into the bath with him.
These megabloks are brilliant, my son has played with them since around 10 month old, and he has really learnt to associate these with building and his megabloks table, and he will build and play with these for hours. An excellent bag of bricks, which were worth every penny!
We bought Mega Bloks for our daughter's first birthday, and I have to say not once have I ever been disappointed with these. They keep my daughter entertained for ages, even before she could even put two together she would happily watch me or my partner build with them. Although these blocks are recommended for ages 1-5, I think anybody could get enjoyment out of these blocks.
The blocks come in a zipped bag and there are sixty blocks that come in a primary colour scheme. The blocks are all different sizes, but they all fit onto each other. There will be some blocks that are single, double, triple etc. They also come in two other colour themes. The blocks are a perfect size for little hands, small, yet chunky. These blocks are very strong and durable. The bag itself is also strong, it's great for storing the blocks when you've finished and is closed with a zip, there is also a handle.
These construction blocks are great for hand eye co-ordination, motor skills, creativity, imagination and can help teach your little ones colours and pairing skills. My daughters hand eye co-ordination has improved greatly, as well as her motor skills and I feel that the Mega Bloks helped with that a lot. She has also recently taken to only stacking the same colours, or same sized blocks, without me interfering. They also help keep your little ones focused, I can leave my daughter to play with these blocks while I cook, whereas with anything else she would soon be by the kitchen door waiting for me to finish.
I would definitely recommend Mega Bloks to anybody, I think they have to be one of the best construction toys for toddlers, and even older ones, they will keep them entertained and focused for ages. I would buy these over and over.
For Christmas Jayden received Mega Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag from my parents, when he first received the Mega Bloks he would play with them a little bit but was a bit young to co-ordinate himself with them, however recently he really got into playing with his Mega Bloks and loves them, it is one of the first toys he goes up to and he will spend ages putting the bricks together and taking them apart again.
Meg Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag comes in a large plastic type bag, the front of the bag has the words Mega Bloks written on the front in large red writing within a blue square, next to this are the words First Builders written in different colours.
Right at the bottom of the bag is written Big Building Bag with the age group that this is suitable for and also the amount of pieces that there are in the bag. The rest of the front of the bag is taken up with a picture of the actual bricks and also what you can make from them, there is also a clear plastic covered window in the centre of the front of the bag which allows you to see the Mega Bloks inside.
The back of the storage bag has another picture of what can be built with the Mega Bloks and also what skills this toy will help to develop. The bag has a bright red zip going around the top of it with a red plastic handle on the top, this allows you to store all of the Meg Bloks inside the bag when your child has finished playing with them and keeps things tidy.
Mega Bloks are basically a large chunky version of Lego which are aimed at younger children, in the Meg Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag you received 60 chunky plastic blocks/ bricks, these are of different shapes and sizes and each block will fit to any other block within the bag. The blocks are made from a strong durable plastic and come in a range of bright colours, in this particular bag you get red, white, green, dark blue, light blue and yellow blocks. With this bag of Meg Bloks you can make a range of things, some of the ideas on the bag include a dinosaur, a boat, a deer and what I think is a bird, although at the moment there is no way Jayden could make any of these things, these are just some ideas if things you can build with the blocks in this bag, however you can build whatever you want. The recommended age group for this particular product is 1 to 5 years.
On the back of the bag there is a small amount of information about the skills that Mega Bloks can help to develop, these include
* Motor Skills
* Creativity and Imagination
* Colour and Shape Recognition
* Confidence and Self Esteem
* Focus and Attention
I have to agree with most of these points and do think that playing with Mega Bloks can help to develop these skills in your child, however I'm not too sure about Confidence and Self Esteem, personally I not sure how building blocks can help to develop this particular skill.
As I have mentioned Jayden received his Mega Bloks bag as a Christmas present, however I do know that this product is available from Argos and is sold for £14.99, personally I think this is excellent value for money as you get a large bag of the blocks for this money and it can provide your child with hours of fun.
Jayden has had his Mega Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag since Christmas and although he did play with it a little bit he has only really starting getting into playing with it over the last few weeks.
He is only just over a year old so there is no way he could actually make any of the suggestions on the storage bag but he loves to sit and put the bricks together and then take them apart again, he will stack the bricks up and then knock them over or take them apart, they really do provide him with hours of entertainment.
The Mega Bloks are something that Jayden can play with alone or they are also ideal for you to play together, when I play with the Mega Bloks with Jayden it normally consists of me building something and then he takes it apart within seconds, but he really does seem to enjoy himself.
Playing with his Mega Bloks definitely helps to develop co-ordination/ motor skills, since Jayden has been playing with the blocks he has definitely improved when it comes to putting them together.
Personally I think the Meg Bloks are very reasonably priced as they are something that your child will get a lot of use out of and they will last a long while. The blocks are tough and durable and can easily stand up to the tough time they have with young children.
Overall I would highly recommend the Mega Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag, it is an ideal way to introduce your child to Mega Bloks, this particular bag is suitable for girls or boys and I will definitely be buying further Mega Bloks for Jayden in the future.
