My daughter received this set of Mega Bloks bricks for her first birthday and we have had hours of fun.
The pack includes 80 bricks in pale pink, hot pink, purple and white. They are chunky, and very easy for little ones to hold and build with. The bricks come in a clear plastic storage bag, with a handle making it very easy to carry, store and transport the bricks.
The bricks are extremely well made and designed and can be put together easily. The bricks easily stand up to the rough play of small children and they can easily be wiped clean as needed.
As my daughter is still quite small she will only put a couple of bricks together at the moment, however she loves for us to build towers for her to knock down. She also loves to sort the bricks and will quite happily tip them all out of the bag and then put them one by one back into the bag only to tip them out and start all over again.
As she gets older these bricks will be useful to play counting and colour game as well as building and identifying shapes and the Mega Blok range also includes other items you can add to your set such as vehicles, characters and even a table to build on.
These bricks are suitable from 1 - 5 years old and I can certainly see us getting lots of use from our set. Whilst this set is perfect for use on its own, we have decided to get our daughter a few of the other items for Christmas as she enjoys playing with her bricks so much and we highly recommend this set.
This set of bricks is widely available in shops and online and costs around £10.

These were bought for my daughter for Christmas last year by a relative. I personally have a preference for Duplo I have a much younger brother and he had Mega Bloks which I can remember were not as good.
The blocks come in a large plastic bag which has a clear section on the front through which you can see the blocks. There is a zip at the top of the bag. The bag is great for stroring the blocks as it is made from a robust material.
The blocks are described as first builders and suitable for ages 1 and over. Through the plastic you can see the pretty colours which include pale green, lilac, two shades of pink and yellow blocks. The blocks come in different sizes and shapes. In a bag you get 70 blocks. I have seen these in Smyths this week for £14.99 in the sale so for the amount of blocks they are good value for money.
The blocks are large in size much bigger than Duplo. This means that they are good for younger children it also means that the blocks are easier to put together than Duplo.
My daughter wasn't interested in these blocks last Christmas and they have been gathering dust in her bedroom however in the last two months she has started to play with them. Unlike the Duplo sets we have which contain animals and flowers these blocks are basic there are just different size square and rectangular shapes.
The plastic these blocks are made from is robust and quite flexible. Again in comparison to Duplo blocks they feel a lot softer. My daughter in the last few weeks has started to stack the blocks together to build big towers and then she likes to either pull them apart or throw them on the floor to break them back apart. The blocks are very easy to put together they don't require mucheffort at all and with ease in a few seconds my daughter is well on her way to building a tower. However because the blocks are easy to put together they are also very easy to break apart. If you pick up the blocks too firmly the construction will start to fall apart. When we play with Duplo my daughter is able to carry around her creation to show us. Nevertheless she still enjpys playing with them and they can be stacked very high on a solid surface and remain upright without collapsing. The shape of the blocks make them ideal for my daughter to grasp and they are great for helping develop coordination.
Overall these are decent blocks. I have seen some extra accessories including a building table and a few princess type pieces but nothing as exciting as Duplo in which we have Disney sets and a few animal sets. They still get played with and I am sure they will for years to come. But perhaps it's because I am not a child I can't build anything creative with these blocks whereas with Duplo I am able to build houses and other basic structures for my daughter.
I can't say I would buy these again. The storage bag in handy and you get a lot for the money but I feel that there are better choices on the market.
