Advantages: Brightly coloured toys with lots of features
Disadvantages: No plank to walk off.
My Mum bought the Mega Bloks Pirate Ship for my 2 year old for Christmas, it was on special offer in Tesco for £15, it is currently retailing on Amazon for £24.12, though can sometimes be £29.99.
The toy itself is about 50cms long, 17cm in width and 29cms to the tip of the pirate flag. It is a sturdy toy, very brightly coloured and is interesting to play with. There was not need for fixing together, which is always a bonus and it comes with round 20 different features.
The ship comes with 2 pirates, a shark, a working cannon and cannon ball, a treasure chest and a trap door with treasure at the bottom. It has a pull cord, which in my opinion is far too short for my little one to pull along, but I suppose that is to stop any accidents occurring.
The base of the ship is brown and has a window where you can see treasure hidden. On top of the ship is a small red and blue cabin that is detachable and underneath is where the treasure is hiding. On top of the cabin is the ships wheel. There is a pirate flag and mast that all come apart, with a little basket at the top for the pirates to use as a look out area, and then there is the cannon, which you use by hitting a small lever and the cannon ball shoots across the living room, the cannon itself does not detach from the ship.
My son also has some other Mega Blok items and they can be interchanged, so the pirates and shark are often in the Mega bloc zoo. On the ship is also a little monkey, which when pressed plays a few tunes, like a pirate jig, overall they are not too annoying for adults. I must say that I am disappointed that there is not a parrot included, as this is what people generally associate pirates with and also there is no plank to walk off, though this has not bothered my son in the slightest.
My son played with this toy loads when he first got it and enjoyed pulling it around, but for the last month or so it has started to gather dust. I expect that it will come back into its own once he becomes a little older and starts to plays more imaginatively.
Overall, for the price paid it is a lovely toy that should last a long time.
Summary: Great toy, would recommend to others.
