I was pleased that my daughter received a wide variety of items for her first birthday, including toys that I wouldn't necessarily have thought of getting her. One such item was this bag of Mega Bloks Trendy Building blocks, that comes, very handily in a big PVC bag with a carry handle, so the blocks can be stored easily, as well as being transported without the hassle of a big cumbersome box. THere is flexibility with this bag, meaning it can be squeezed into the car boot or into a toy cupboard. This bag of 60 mega bloks is suitable for children from age 1+ so this was an ideal starter into the world of construction for my daughter, who previously had no experience of building blocks. Mega Bloks, like other constructions toys is meant to encourage motor skills and imaginative play, as children can create a variety of things with these bricks. Within this pack of 60, of which the bricks of brightly coloured in blues, yellows and pinks to name a few, there are single building bricks as well as larger bricks so for example, building something with legs or with a tower is made easier. There are also some bricks with rounded edges that are useful when making something with feet or the roof of a house. When my daughter first got this toy, she simply enjoyed taking some of the bricks out of the bag and then putting them back in, and she could do this for quite a while. A month on, and she will now watch as I make something like a robot, or house, and will take bricks apart herself and has now started to put some bricks together. At 13 months, she doesn't yet have the capacity to make her own design but through me playing with her and making something, I hope it is a good tool to encourage her creative skills as well her motor skills as she helps me. Obviously these bricks will have a lot longer lifespan and as my daughter grows her interaction with these bricks will also develop, however, I still think they are an excellent first birthday gift as it gets a young toddler interested in making things and develops those all important motor skills. I also like the fact that with these blocks, they can be used with other mega bloks, so as my daughter grows, her collection can be added to, to enable her to make more complex designs. A box of these mega bloks could set you back around £15, but they are long lasting well made bricks that will not date unlike some other electronic toys, so I think they are worth their money, for the amount of years I expect her to get out of them. They are a great toy, and I am so glad that someone bought them to her. They may not be played with every day at this stage, but at least a couple of weeks this bag is hauled from her toy cupboard and played with and she seems to find enjoyment with it.
Get creative with the Mega Bloks Build 'n' Create set of 60 Blocks . Build a house, a castle or anything you can dream up with this set of 60 chunky, brightly coloured bricks.
