Focus Dailies Contact Lenses
by busybee87
I had a lot of trouble finding contact lenses that fit my eyes well as I'm told by my optician that I have small eyes. Focus Dailies have the perfect diameter at 13.9 and fit perfectly. The size also makes them extremely easy to put in and handle.
Focus dailies are robust. In about 3 years of using these lenses, I've maybe had ... 2 rip. Both times the rip wasn't overly painful and I could easily remove the lense fragments from my eyes.
The major advantage of these lenses is that they are excellent value. However, I wear lenses for at least 8 hours a day, 7 days a week and I do find that my eyes feel quite dry in the evenings when I've been wearing these, particularly if I've been in an air conditioned or heated space. I am therefore upgrading to Ciba Vision Aqua Comfort lenses. My optician explained that the Ciba Vision lenses are basically a more advanced and updated version of Focus Dailies. They offer more moisture to the eye and don't dry out my eyes so much so I can wear my lenses for longer.
All in all, Focus Dailies are hugely popular lenses because they fit great, are excellent value for money, and don't tear easily. They are however a basic lense and I think it may be worthwhile to pay more for a lense that allows more oxygen into the eye and promotes better eye health. Read the complete review |

I have always had monthlies however a couple of years ago I was finding that my monthlies were beginning to irritate my eyes a little bit so my optician moved me onto two-weekly lenses. I was happy with this and was amazed with the comfort and how well they kept my eyes moist. However, for some strange reason my optician decided that ... because I wasnt wearing them every day it would make more sense to move me onto a daily lense. Now I saw where he was coming from but as I said to him I only ever wore my lenses for a few hours at a time so to me it did seem a bit silly to wear lenses for a few hours and then throw them away. However, I took his advice and tried these out.
The lenses come in exactly the same wrapping as most. They lay flat in a plastic case/holder with a foil lid. Now one thing about dailies is that you dont need to faff about with solution and soaking them overnight so that is one positive.
I went about putting these lenses in the same as I would with other lenses. I found them more difficult to get in my eye than other lenses and I found that more often than not it would take 3 or 4 tries to get them in my eye and even then it didnt feel like they were sat on my eyeball correctly. Even when I used a kind of comfort drop I couldnt get them in my eye easily.
Once they were finally in my eye it could take up to half an hour for them to 'right themselves' on my eyeball and become comfortable. However, even once they were settled I found that they found quite drying and my eyes would often feel sore throughout the day. I never wore these for an entire day but I imagine they would be very drying and irritating on my eye if I had done.
I had an opticians appointment last week and I asked to be returned onto two-weeklies. Since being given these my eyes have felt so much better and more moist. I would never return to using dailies I dont think unless I had good reason to believe that my eyes had changed. They are more expensive than monthlies or two-weeklies (approx £30 for a 3 month supply) and they are very drying on my eyes. Not for me. Read the complete review |

Focus Dailies Contact Lenses

I hate wearing glasses! I do have no choice in the matter though, I'm not quite as blind as a bat but it's not great.
There are some things I don't like to do with glasses on, 1 is going out because I'm a bit vain and the other is Aquafit because I can't see the instructor properly and wearing glasses in a swimming pool is a ... nightmare.
I used to get them from Specsavers but they insisted I needed a particular type of contact lenses that were over £20 a box. So I went off to Tesco's with my prescription where I bought them for £10 a box. At some point I may get them from the internet but I had a bit more peace of mind doing it this way.
I have the daily lenses as I am unable to wear the ones you can have for a month ne they the ones you can keep in for or month or the ones you take out every night and put in solution. Its also been recommended that I only wear them 3-4 times a week as I have some issue with oxygen in my eyes. These lenses therefore are only designed to be worn once, sticking them in solution and trying to re-wear them is just going to cause problems.
Most people know what contact lenses look like, they are4 basically a small round of flexible soft plastic that you put onto the surfac4e of your eye. They come in a long box and there's 30 in each box. Each box will be specific to your prescription and if your optician is useful, like the Tesco lady L and R will be written on each box. This helps you know what eye the lens goes into and it states the prescription and the expiry date which in this case is 2017.
Each contact lens comes in a strip of 7. They snap easily enough apart and then you have to peel the rather tough foil top off. Now this isn't exactly easy to do as they are usually stuck down quite well, too much pulling and they'll fly out of your hands and you'll lose it all.
The contact lens lies in a saline solution in a little dip. Now when you have the test to prove you can use the lens they teach you how to put them in but not how to get the fiddly things out of the packet! If you have no nails you can easily put your finger in and pull it out.
If you have nails like me its far more difficult, I have to push the pad of my finger into the saline and get it to stick onto my finger, then it's a case of getting it from there to being balanced on the tip of my finger ready to pop onto the eyeball. I know there are people wondering why I just don't tip it onto my hand but all that happens then is that the lens stays stuck to the side of the packet!
I will mention that they do dry out pretty quickly when out of the solution and not in your eye. I have had a situation where it literally fell back out of my eye. By the time I had found it and tried to put it in it had dried round the edges and was a tad painful to stick in the eye!
However when they are in they stay nice and moist for quite a long time4, I find them comfortable to wear all day. They just about manage a session in the pool, sauna and steam room. They can be extremely uncomfortable if you get water in your eyes. They seem to slip and slide about a bit and a couple of times I've had to take them out, this seems to have happened more with these than the other ones.
But as a bonus I've not had one split yet unlike the other brand where it seemed to happen on a regular basis. If you've ever had that happen you will know the excruciating pain!
Getting them out is also nice and easy, they just popped off without a problem.
I've definitely changed my brand, not withstanding the price I feel the quality seems to be much better, so I'll stick with these thank you very much

Please ensure you have a valid up-to-date contact lens prescription before you buy these. Quality opticians will ensure you either have your test done with them or somewhere else. Buying them off the web can cause problems with an old prescription. Please also be aware that a contact prescription may not be the same as a glasses prescription (as in my case) and wearing contact lens with a glasses prescription may also cause problems.
