Bio True Multi-Purpose Solution
by europe-chick
I wear contact lenses most of the time, and as such I get through a fair amount of contact lens cleaning solution. I've worn contact lenses since I was in my teens (I'm in my 30's now), and so I've had years of experience with both the lenses and the solutions. I wear both the monthly disposable contact lenses and the daily disposable ... contact lenses, I wear the monthly lenses most of the time, and I use the daily lenses for travelling.
I used to always use the Bausch & Lomb Renu solution, as this worked for me and I didn't see any reason to change, however I have been also using supermarkets own solutions on and off. I've probably tried most of the contact lens solutions out there over the years, some are great, and some I don't like. At my last contact lens check up my optician recommended this fairly new solution by Bausch & Lomb - Biotrue. He gave me a full size bottle to try out, and I liked it so much that I've continued to purchase it
I do always look out for it on offer as my contact lens regime already costs me a fortune as I buy monthly disposable lenses, daily disposable lenses, saline, comfort drops and obviously the cleaning solution. I've just recently picked up two bottles of Biotrue from Boots where they're on a buy one get one half price offer. The full price of a bottle of Biotrue in Boots is £11.99, and it's a 300ml bottle.
I find that a 300ml bottle of Biotrue will last me around 2 months. I don't wear my contact lenses 7 days a week, probably 5 or 6 days a week on average, and I also wear the daily disposable contact lenses occasionally as well so I don't need to clean my monthly lenses every single night. The bottle states that you do need to dispose of any used solution 90 days after opening.
Biotrue is really easy to use, and you use it just like all of the other all-in-one solutions on the market; first of all wash your hands, then remove each lens in turn, place the lens in the palm of your hand and pop a few drops of Biotrue onto the lens, gently rub each side of the lens with the pad of your finger taking care not to damage or nick the lens, rinse the solution off with either saline or a bit more Biotrue and then place the lens in the correct side of your contact lens case, which you've filled up with more Biotrue, repeat for the other lens, leave to soak for at least 4 hours or overnight, your lenses are then clean and ready to wear in the morning.
You can put your lenses in straight from the solution in the morning, but I normally find that more often than not most contact lens solutions can make my eyes sting a little bit when I do this. I would normally solve this problem by just giving each lens a quick rinse with saline before I put it in, this then makes the lenses instantly comfortable when I put them in. I've found with Biotrue that it hardly ever stings my eyes when I insert my contact lenses in the mornings, just the odd time, and that only seems to be when I'm particularly tired and my eyes are a bit sore and tired anyway. Although Biotrue is a very gentle solution I do find that it keeps my lenses perfectly clean and clear, and it continues to do so for the life of the contact lens i.e. a month.
Biotrue comes in a plastic squeezy bottle, you just remove the lid and squeeze the bottle to dispense the solution; a gentle squeeze will dispense a small amount of solution to use to rub your lens clean, and a hard squeeze will dispense a steady jet of solution to fill your contact lens case. Each packet of Biotrue also comes with a contact lens case, it's a flat case as opposed to the barrel case which I like, as I always manage to nick a piece out of the edge of a contact lens in the barrel case. The little flat case that they give you is even colour coded with a green lid for one lens, which is handy for if your lenses are different prescriptions, but you should keep your lenses separate anyway for hygiene reasons.
I've not had any problems at all with Biotrue, in fact I prefer it as it feels like a milder and kinder solution on my eyes, hence the lack of stinging when I insert my contact lenses in the mornings. I find that it keeps my lenses perfectly clean and clear, and it continues to do so for the life of the contact lens i.e. a month (well actually up to 2 months sometimes as I don't always use a new pair every month if I've only had a few wears out of them). I will definitely continue to buy Biotrue even though it's more expensive than a lot of the contact lens solutions out there. Read the complete review |

Opti-Free Replenish
by Loubielou82
After several years of using Opti Free Xpress solution to clean my contact lenses, my optician suggested that I make the move and start purchasing the Opti Free Replenish solution instead.
This solution does everything that the Opti Free Xpress does, however it does what it says on the tin and works to replenish the moisture ... and the quality of your lenses whilst you sleep. Overall it should enhance the life of the lenses by preventing them from drying out or becoming brittle over the course of a week or fortnight, however long you wear them.
As with other solutions, I remove my lenses and give them a thorough clean with Opti Free Replenish before popping the lenses into a contact lens case, filling each well with solution, and leaving them to soak overnight.
To be honest, I notice very little difference between this and the Opti Free Xpress however I do feel that I am doing the best for my lenses and indeed my eyes by using this solution and would continue to do so. Read the complete review |
