The world of contact lens solution is a wide one, with every company competing to get the best brand product out there and convince the masses that theirs is the best one to go for. I have experimented with many different brand products, from the specialist brands such as this one to the own brand ones from supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Tesco.
I find it very hard to notice a difference between the various brands, and this for me is the bottom line. The end result is the most important thing, and having used quite a few, there's so little difference that it's almost worth just going for the cheapest one and therefore getting the best value that way. Renu, from Bausch & Lomb, is just as good as its competitors, which is what you'd expect from a specialist in eye care. You get a 240ml bottle of solution for £9 or thereabouts, which is much more expensive than an own brand such as Sainsbury's, but then there is the supposed reassurance of getting a quality product from a recognised specialist.
And if it's quality you're after then this ticks the box. I used this for a number of years, and never had an issue. The fact that the solution is multi purpose means that you don't have to have a different product for cleaning to the one for storage, one solution is enough. I have always placed a lens in the palm of my hand and gently rubbed it with a small amount of solution to clean it before then placing it in the lens case with some fresh solution for storage and neutralisation. The idea is that after only a few hours the lenses are back to a state where they can be put back in.
And it works. I've never had any stinging or awkwardness beyond what I should expect due to my astigmatism, which means my eyes aren't a smooth curve. The solution does its job perfectly. The other thing I really like about it is not quite as important, but it's the dispenser. The solution comes from a nozzle which will allow a couple of drops if you just turn it upside down, and a slight squeeze allows easy control of the flow, something I find some other similar products don't do, leaving mess. I know it's less important as it's the care of the lenses that are paramount, but it's often little things such as this that can sway a purchasing decision.
What you have to weigh up though is the purchasing benefits and value for money. The Sainsbury's own brand, for example, may have a poor nozzle and cause small dispensing issues, but I find the solution to be just as good as this one, and the product costs half as much! Where do you weigh up the benefits? For me, I would tend to opt for the Sainsbury's product as the cost balances the value for money in its favour and makes it more worth the money I spend. Others will have a different view, no doubt, but this for me is what clinches it. This Renu product is very good, and I can't fault the product or the nozzle, but as twice the price it's hard to justify getting it just because they're specialists and the nozzle dispenses the solution better. Great, but not the best value for me.
I have always bought my contact solution and lens case separately to keep the cost of my lens package cheap. Bausch & lomb renu solution was the one i purchased all the time before i found the Tesco solution. Bausch & lomb renu multiplus multi-purpose solution is probably the most popular of brands when it comes to solutions as specsavers often used the brand.
Bausch & lomb renu multiplus multi-purpose solution is available to purchase from Specsavers, Asda and Lloyds pharmacy for £9.00. Bausch & lomb renu multiplus multi-purpose solution comes in a 240ml bottle packaged in a blue cardboard box along with one lens case.
Bausch & lomb renu multiplus multi-purpose solution is used for sterilizing the contact lenses, rinsing clean and lubricating them. I like the fact this is a all in one solution saves time and gives good results. One 240ml bottle lasts around six weeks.
To use the renu multiplus multi-purpose solution firstly its best to wash you hands first then handle the lens in the palm of your hand whilst holding the nozzle of the bottle over the lens drop a few drops directly on the lens and turn it over and do the other side. You have to gently rub the lens with a finger tip to remove any dirt and with the drops creating a small puddle in the palm of you hand helps keep the lens covered in solution. You should do this if the lens are dirty or needed lubricated but if you wish to store the lens over night to keep the clean and moist a few drops in each of the plastic lens case that comes with the bottle and you can place a lens in each side screw on the lids and that it.
I loved the fact this is one bottle meaning when i travel i am only taking the solution and case and not needed to use eye drops and separate cleaners. Bausch & lomb renu multiplus multi-purpose solution works very well giving good results. I never had any irritation and i would still be using this product if i never found a cheaper solution.
I recommend Bausch & lomb renu multiplus multi-purpose solution.
I no longer use this lotion for my lenses as I changed opticians, and there for my lens solution was changed, but I used Renu for a long time and my boyfriend still uses this.
Renu is a multi-purpose contact lens solution that is used for cleaning, storing, rinsing and lubricating. This solution is also used to remove protein build up and to disinfect contact lenses. This is for soft contact lenses.
Renu is a sterile solution which contains boric acid, edeate disodium, sodium borate and sodium chloride. A bottle will usually last you about a month if used correctly and you use it every day.
To use this solution, you must first wash your hands, as you always should when handling contact lenses. When you have removed a contact lens from your eye, drop approx 3 drops of the solution to each side of your contact lens, and gently rub to clean it. Do this carefully so as not to rip the lens. When you have finished rubbing, gently rinse the lens using the solution, and then pop the lens into the storage case and fill the case with solution. Carry this procedure out for the other contact lens, and then leave the lenses in the case for at least 4 hours.
You can leave the contacts in the solution for up to 30 days before wearing again if so required, but once you have taken the lenses out of the case, throw away the used solution and leave the case to air dry. Never re use the same solution as this can cause problems with things like infections and dirty contact lenses.
I like this solution as it is easy to use, and cleans lenses very well. Never had a problem with it in anyway and my contacts were always very clean and comfortable after using this solution. You can buy this solution in boots stores, and in boots opticians. It can be bought in some supermarkets too. I recommend this to all soft contact lens wearers as it is brilliant stuff that I can not fault.
I've been wearing contact lenses for the last few years now. I found glasses cumbersum & quite a hassle but was dubious about putting stuff in my eyes. However I've never looked back since moving to contact lenses as you can hardly feel them in your eyes. Each month I get two pairs of contact lenses as well as a bottle of the Bausch & Lomb cleaning solution.
To keep your contacts clean, you're supposed to keep them in the stored in the solution whilst they are not being worn. Also you are recommended to put a few drops of the solution on the lenses when first removing them just to remove any dryness.
In my opinion, the solution works very well and makes sure that the lenses can be worn for many hours without drying out. It also keeps them sufficiently moist whilst they are not being used.
Although I get a bottle every month free of charge as part of my contact lenses subscription, I found it takes me a few months to get through one as they are so big.
There are a couple of contact lense solutions on the market but in my opinion this one is the best.
I have been wearing soft contact lenses since I was a teenager, after ditching my awful glasses, which just did not suit me. I have also always went to the same local optician in town, who, from day one, recommended I use a Bausch and Lomb solution to clean my lenses.
Now, I never had any problems with my Bausch and Lomb solution and always felt my lenses were well cleaned. However, after a few years of wearing lenses, my local opticians started promoting another solution, and though I was reluctant (being a creature of habit) I thought I would give this new solution a try, with the advantage that it was slightly cheaper than the Bausch and Lomb solutions. This new solution (opti free) turned out to be a disaster, and left me with an infection in my eye (something that has never happened since).
This experience alone, made me return to what I knew before, ie Bausch and Lomb solutions. The optician has since tried (and failed) to persuade me to try other new solutions on the market (I assume they are on some kind of commission), but did recommend RENU multiplus multi purpose, since I wanted to remain with a Bausch and Lomb product.
Bausch and Lomb RENU multi plus multi-purpose is an excellent daily solution for those who wear soft contact lenses. It claims on its website, that this solution 'effectively kills germs in just 4 hours (thus) keeping soft contact lenses comfortable and eyes heathly'. Two essentials when wearing contact lenses.
RENU multiplus is available to buy in most chemists and even major supermarkets, and after a quick scan on the internet, a 240ml bottle can be bought for just over £6, although many suppliers offer multi packs of these, which can usually work out cheaper. I use this solution every day to clean and disinfect my lenses, so an average bottle lasts me approx 3 months. I have previously stocked up on this solution in Walmarts, during previous trips to the states, who sell this for almost half the price that it is in the UK.
Anyhow, this solution also claims on the front the bottle to:
Remove Protein Daily
This solution offers a 'all in one' formula, and contains 'hydranate' which helps to remove protein deposits that can build up on the lenses.
The solution also has a 'no rub' formula, however, my own optician has always recommended that lenses be rubbed in the solution, back and front, before being rinsed, and I have stuck to his advice, feeling that my lenses are then properly cleaned and disinfected.
The instructions on the reverse of the bottle are easy to follow, with only 2 steps. Firstly, thoroughly rinsing each side of the lens for 5 seconds with the RENU solution. Secondly, placing contact lenses in the lens case and fill with fresh RENU, leaving to soak for at least four hours.
I use this solution every day, with my monthly soft lenses, and as always, have found that Bausch and Lomb solutions leave my lenses feeling comfortable, as well as clean, giving me clear vision when wearing them. Using this solution, I also feel that it is removing protein and disinfecting the lenses at the same time, assuming I follow the correct lens care routine.
Having had a bad experience with another solution, I would never risk trying a new solution again, and why would I, when I can be sure that RENU MultiPlus is doing everything that I need a contact lens solution to do, without infections, stinging or uncomfortableness.
A great solution for soft contact lens wearers.
I have used this solution now for over a year and it has transformed my life!
Prior to this the contact lens care routine was very lengthy. It involved daily cleaner, neutralising lotion and saline and to be honest going away fro the weekend meant you carried more weight than a pair of heavy walking shoes in your case! The lenses also used to get protein deposits on them which meant more solutions and sometimes my eyes would get dry which meant I needed comfort drops. To be honest I was considering surgery to correct my vision until I was recommended to try this product by my contact lens practicioner.
What a difference! All you do is place the lens in the solution at the end of the day and you are away.
No more need for comfort drops either as my lenses are moist all day long. I wear 2 weekly replacement lenses by Acuvue and even by the end of the second week they are comfortable all day long.
The best thing is you can buy the solution in little bottles in Boots stores, Superdrug and at airports. This is designed to be accepted on aeroplanes so you can buy enough for about a week's holiday and it weighs nothing. These little sets also have the clear plastic bags needed for security control and a replacement case to keep everything sterile.
You can also get the solutions free in 3 monthly bottles with a lot of the contracts available from High Street Opticians or online if you buy that way.
In summary this is a great product which has transformed my life.
I have been a soft contact lens wearer for the past fifteen years. I have used several cleaning solutions over that period. All except the one i am using now have allowed deposits to build up on the lens surface despite using protein tablet removers as well and were a complete pain to use. My worst experience was whilst i was using the two step solutions. I was late for work and went to put my lenses in in a hurry. After putting one in my eye i was overcome with instant agony - i had not rinsed off the cleaning solution with the neutralising solution - never again!! One bright red bulbous eyeball later and blurred vision for a while i decided it was time to look for a safer solution to use to clean my lenses. This is when i discovered 'renu multiplus' FANtastic!! It does the lot cleans, rinses, disinfects, lubricates and stores your contact lenses all with one solution. Completely hassle free formula for keeping your lenses as good as new. I have used it for three years now and had no problems whatsoever. I have found that i do not have to replace my contact lenses as often (i wear lenses that have a life of approximately one to two years.) Renu multiplus changed my life when i started using it. Before i found an alternative to the two step solutions i was scared that i was going to make the same mistake. It also saves a lot of time as it used to take me around half an hour a day to care for my lenses now i only have to take them out at night, put them into the solution in the pot provided and put them in in the morning! No monthly protein removing sessions, which cost a fortune! I buy my solutions via mail order in boxes of three at around £30 pounds a time which lasts me around six months. It comes in a white plastic bottle with a screw lid so there is no leakage on trips. In Boots etc a 240ml bottle costs around £9.50. Which las
ts around two months. It is also available in a travel sized bottle which is enough for a fortnight or more which is great for holidays, saving space etc. It is a very gentle solution that does a great job. It is safe and saves an awful lot of hassle. Couldn't recommend it more! If i have left anything out let me know and i will add it in if it will help!
I have been using Contact Lenses since the age of 12 and I recently purchased another batch of disposable contact lenses, as this is the type that I wear nowadays. The type purchased was the SofLens Comfort, which come in boxes of 6 lenses. The optical practitioner included a bottle of Renu MultiPlus solution with my order, free of charge. Since I have started using disposable lenses, which basically means that you wear them for about a month and then through them away and replace them with another pair, the need to use solutions has greatly diminished. Solutions are basically required for cleaning, soaking and storing your contact lenses. However from time to time I do need to use it as occasionally I do remove my lenses at night if I am suffering any minor irritations or if the lenses need to be cleaned prior to the one month of usage. Renu Multiplus is an ideal solution that can be used, as the name suggests, for a variety of purposes. New ingredients have been included, which provide excellent penetrating qualities. This therefore diminishes the requirement of rubbing the lenses to clean them. All you need to do now is to simply fill up the solution in the lens case and insert the lenses for a few hours. However a full night is more preferable and effective. The solution removes any protein buildup, it rinses, it disinfects and it lubricates your lenses. Your lenses will then be ready to be used again and will almost be as good as new. Bausch & Lomb who are pioneers in optical care and the development of products that improve the visual concept manufacture Renu MultiPlus. Therefore you are assured of the highest quality and that is what you most certainly need for your eyes. The complimentary bottle that I received as a 60ml one, which is pretty small, but then what do you expect when its free. They are available from most pharmacies and optical shops
aswell as the Internet in various bottle sizes. These include the 240ml bottles, which go for £9.35, and the 355ml bottles which go for £12.65. Although slightly on the high side if compared to other solutions, this one is well worth it and most other solutions will require you to physically rub the lenses with the solution in order to remove protein buildup. Renu does the job for you and without the extra hassle. Overall Renu MultiPlus is a very efficient and high quality product. Your eyes are an integral part of your life and therefore deserve the respect that this solution provides. If you are a contact lens user I strongly recommend this and other Renu and Bausch & Lomb products. PS. An opinion on the disposable SofLens Comfort will follow soon.
You would think that all saline solutions are generally the same, but no such luck! First off, whoever invented the “MultiPurpose” contact lens solution should be given a prize or something! I for one am crap at cleaning my contact lenses. I have started using 2 week or 1 month lenses because of that. This solution is perfect for those types of lenses, as you never really have to clean them. The solution claims to remove protein build up, clean, rinse, disinfect, lubricate and store your lenses. What else is there?? I have also tried other brands of MultiPurpose and have found that with the Bausch & Lomb brand my lenses are noticeably more comfortable. It may cost a bit more but you don’t need to buy everything separately therefore saving money in the long run. I would recommend all Bausch & Lomb contact lens products over any others having worn lenses for15 years and tried many!
ReNu MultiPlus Multi-Purpose Solution is used to clean, rinse, disinfect and remove protein build-up every day, all steps in one bottle.
