Bausch & Lomb Renu MultiPlus No Rub
Advantages: Is effective, provides comfort and is gentle on sensitive eyes.
Disadvantages: May still need to rub - consult your optician.
I have been wearing soft contact lenses for 15 years and have had to use a variety of cleaning solutions. I started out using a three step system of rubbing, disinfecting then saline rinsing but was able to change to a one step cleaner after I started using monthly disposable lenses. I began using 'Complete' which is a reputable make and a product supplied by most optician practictioners. I had some problems with 'Complete' in that when I initially put my lenses in the solution around made the lens float around my eye a little which resulted in blurry vision for a few hours. I was then advised to try Renu incase it was a thinner solution and would help solve this problem.
I started out using the Renu Mutli-Purpose Solution and recently have started using this new 'No Rub' formula. I always buy the 240ml bottle which are readily available to buy at my local Asda. Apart from the stores own make contact lens cleaner, this is the cheapest solution available to buy and is approximately £4-5. Expect to pay closer to £10 at a high street chemist chain or £7-8 at an opticians.
The product comes in a box which has an instructional/help leaflet enclosed. This provides clear simple and crucial health advice for customers. I always like to glance over these precautions just incase there is something new - eyesight is too important to take for granted. Also included in the box is a lens case. The lense case supplied is white with two large letters 'R' and 'L' on the screw caps. The bottom of the case is also indented on one side to help you sort out which side to put each lens. I would prefer it if one side of the lens case was coloured, as the case is with the 'Complete' Multi-purpose solution, as I often can not see the letter imprints until I hold them up to my face.
The bottle is sturdy plastic with a screw top opening. This means the bottle is fully transportable and stays secure with no spillage. The dispensing nozzle is small and it is necessary to squeeze to eject any liquid. This is handy as it means no accidental spills when tipping the bottle upside down.
Although this solution promises to clean, rinse, disinfect and store lenses with no need for the messy rubbing stage I was advised by my optician that I should NOT stop rubbing my lenses. I was told that despite the promises of this solution it is still beneficial to make absolutely sure that your lenses are as clean as they can be. I am not saying this product is not effective or that it's 'no rub' claim is a health risk or a con - I am just going off the advice of my optician, whom I trust. How you use this product should be advised by your own eye care professsional.
I do find a high degree of comfort when using this cleaner and perhaps this is due to the fact that it is a strong, effective solution. My eyes feel fresh and clear when I first put my lenses in. This solution is also good for tired or sensitive eyes as the traces of solution on the lenses feels cool, refreshing and gentle.
The solution stays fresh and valid for six months after opening the bottle. Ingredients and directions are printed on the side of the bottle. A weekly cleaning protein remover may be necessary in some cases - consult your optician before use.
Summary: A reliable lens cleaner with a 'no rub' formula.
