I have been wearing glasses since I was a teenager and I have been wearing contact lenses for about 5 years. I am short sighted and I have astigmatism and so this means that I can't see well far away but I can see well for reading and close work.
I used to wear spectacles full time but I craved to have the vision I used to have before and this is why I decided to try contact lenses. I find glasses a little constrictive in terms of field of view and as the contact lenses are on the eye and so move with the eye there is all round vision.
I have tried many types of contact lenses because I have dry eyes and I find that with some lenses I can't wear them for long as they dehydrate and they are very uncomfortable. It also affects my vision if my eyes are too dry. I also have a small amount of astigmatism which means that the power of my eyes are uneven and I need more power in one direction than the other. This also presents a visual problem as only toric lenses such as these can correct my astigmatism.
Proclear lenses are from the Coopervision company. The proclear lenses have been desinged to give good comfort and vision to those with dry eyes and they have done research to test the effectivness of the lenses with respect to comfort and dryness. They use a wetting agent that is said to keep the eyes hydrated and comfortable for long periods of time.
The lenses are thin, thicker than cling film but they do feel like cling film. These lenses have a ridge on them for the toric part so that the lens sits in the right place. I have found that this is personally uncomfortable. The lens itself is comfortable and I wouldn't notice it's presence it is we're not for the uncomfortable toric ridge which keeps brushing against my lid. Because of this I found that the lenses were not comfortable enough for me to wear on a daily basis. The vision is really good with these lenses as I can see the same as with my glasses on. But because of the poor comfort levels I don't wear these lenses anymore.
Overall these are a really good lenses for those with astigmatism and dry eyes but not if comfort is an important factor.
These have to be the best contact lenses i've ever tried. Within seconds of usage i could tell that compared to other contacts these gave far more superior clarity. Not only that but they were very gentle on the eye and didn't cause any irritation throughout the 30 day usage, unlike others that can start to dry out your eyes toward the end of usage.
The only disadvantage i've found is that when handled too much the contacts can have a tendancy to tear although this has only happened once or twice in the year i've been using them. Obviously prices vary depending on who's providing them but overall these lenses are in a higher price catagory. However this is well worth it for the results and comfort they give. I've found you can use them while in steamy conditions like the shower, however the instructions say that they shouldn't be submerged in water for too long so i do not recommend swimming with them.
I've been using Proclear lenses for the past 5 years now and can highly recommend them. I use the monthly disposables and find that they are very comfortable, easy to use and clean and I great very clear vision with them. I'm wearing a toric lens in my right eye only at the moment and have found it even more comfortable than the lens in my left. The toric lens is weighted so that on insertion to the eye, it slips round into the right position by itself.
One major advantage I find with these lenses is that I can very quickly and easily tell from the shape of them whether they are inside out or not. They are also remarkably robust, having survived being dropped, scrubbed clean and removed from dry over-worked eyes, when in the past I've had problems with other lenses ripping.
The only disadvantage is that at the end of the month my eyes can feel a little drier and the vision can cloud a little, however after a couple of blinks this is usually fine. And the end of the month is when they're coming to the end of their life span anyway!
I was switched to these contact lenses via specsavers after my previous ones were discontinued.
I found that the clarity of vision was improved when using these new conact lenses, even though my prescription is nearly identical.
I can't feel the contact lenses either, even though my right contact lense is thicker due to the astigmatism in my right eye making the right lense thicker. I've been wearing these lenses for nearly two years now and have experienced little problem with these.
However, my contact lenses are the monthly disposable type where i put them in soloution over night and dispose them after 30 days. I have noticed that towards the end of the 30 days my eyes feel slightly dryer, though not uncomfortably. Also, sometimes the vision can be slightly cloudy, but this isn't for long and it rectifies itself quite quickly.
Overall, these lenses have not caused me major problems, and are very comfortable to use- i wear mine for over 12hours and am able to use them in the shower and bath without them being affected, though i haven't tried swimming with them yet.
I'm not sure however whether you can generally use contact lenses whilst fully submerged in water.
I do have to say that they are quite resilient, the amount of times i have dropped them on the floor, and after rigorous cleasning i still have full visual clarity.
I buy these lenses on a monthly direct debit from spec savers for £17 a month. This includes lenses, a clean contact lense casesolution and aftercare.
I have worn contact lenses for about 23 years and so the original lenses I wore weren't very good for my eyes due to low water content and as a result do have some damage to my eyes so need contact lenses with a relatively high water content. These do the job really well. They have a water content of 62%.
I also have a stigmatism which means the contact lenses have to be weighted. Not all lenses will do but these are great. I do wear them everyday as my son likes to pull my glasses off and they are comfortable all day long. They are monthly disposable. I have got mine through spec savers who send them out in the post every three months and I just pay direct debit.
I don't think I would buy them over the internet though as included in the price from spec savers is a free contact lenses check where they check the fitting and check your sight on a regular basis. They also check on any damage to the eyes.
They do require cleaning and soaking over night.
I have tried the none clean ones but am happier with these.
I am very happy with this product and would recommend it
I am shortsighted, and have worn glasses almost my whole life. I decided to try contact lenses about a year ago and see if they were a better alternative. I play a lot of sport, and glasses get in the way for me. I had struggled without them, but after putting these contact lenses in i found them to be of great assistance.
I was recommended these by my optician, they are reasonably expensive but i will explain why they are worth it. They have been of great help to my daily life and i now wear contact lenses regularily.
Easy to use. At first i struggled like i think most people do to put in contact lenses. Once you master this these lenses are fine. Simply put them in the solution when youre not using them and replace the solution every time you do use them. This keeps them clean. Soft lenses are very easy to use.
Comfort. Some of my friends have complained that their contact lenses provide certain discomfort when they wear them. I have not found that problem with these. When you first put them into your eyes, you will feel some discomfort but once they are in, i dont notice they are there at all.
Value. You get plenty of solution to go with your lenses and i have never run out. Each pair obviously lasts you a month, which is good value for what these lenses give you.
Safe. You have to be careful with all contact lenses, eyes are very delicate afterall. As long as you are responsible i dont think there will be many problems with these lenses. I have never encountered technical difficulties once i had learned the right technique to use contact lenses.
These are monthly lenses, and therefore have the benefit that you dont have to continously replace your lenses. You dont have to worry about that and can keep using your lenses with ease.
