I've been wearing contact lenses for around seven years or so, as part of an all-inclusive monthly package from Specsavers. For a small monthly fee (£10 for a package including lenses, cleaning solution and storage case) I get everything I need delivered to my door every three months. This Easy Vision contact lens solution is Specsavers' own brand of cleaning solution and three bottles of this come supplied within my package. It is possible to purchase the bottles separately, if preferred, directly from any Specsavers optician.

I use soft monthly disposable lenses which require cleaning with this recommended solution in between every use. This all in one solution is used to both rinse the lenses after removing them from the eyes and to soak the lenses between uses. The cleaning is crucial for the health of my eyes and to remove any residue, dirt and germs between uses. The solution also keeps the lenses soft and safe to use.

The solution itself is totally transparent and completely odourless. Essentially, it looks like water with the exact same consistency. On the odd occasion I've ended up tasting this - don't ask!- it does have a slightly salty taste to it. I'm not dead yet so it appears not to be toxic if accidentally tasted in very minute quantities but it isn't something that I or even more sensible people would recommend doing on purpose!

The style of the packaging is fairly simple but functional, with a plain slightly squeezable white and green bottle. The bottle dispenses the liquid easily with just a gentle squeeze and it takes just seconds to fill up the barrel storage container with the recommended amount of liquid. It is easy to direct straight into the palm of my hand too, to cover and rinse my lenses thoroughly, so there really is no excuse to get this stuff everywhere! If it does spill, however, the solution does not appear to stain surfaces at all. The shape of the bottle is fairly unusual as it is relatively tall and flat, considering the amount of solution it contains (250ml). This design is totally intentional as it ensures that the three bottles can be posted within a very thin box, which fits perfectly inside a customer's letterbox, meaning I don't need to be at home when my lenses are delivered.

I find the solution really straightforward to use and have never suffered any adverse reactions to either the lenses or the cleaning solution itself. The only issue that I've encountered with the solution relates to the quantities provided. Specsavers clearly expect that a customer will use around one bottle of this stuff each month, but I find that I use a little less than that. Over the years, my surplus has built up and up and I know have several unopened bottles! Even though I wear lenses most days, only a small amount is needed to actually rinse them thoroughly and the storage container doesn't need to be filled to the brim. Some people do use the solution to rinse the lenses before putting them back in their eyes but, as I don't need to do that for comfort, that may be why I use slightly less solution than other people. I have resolved the issue with the surplus by cancelling the solution for the next few months (which does result in a slightly lower monthly fee.) The only drawback with this is that my package no longer includes the storage container which is a bit irritating!

As an economical all-purpose contact lens cleaning solution, I have never had any difficulties, concerns or issues with the Easy Vision product and will happily continue to use it. I would certainly endorse the Specsavers monthly lens programme alongside their cleaning solution, based on my positive experience.
