Advantages: comfortable and convenient
Disadvantages: can tend to dry out in some environments
I changed to these lenses after wearing ordinary soft (non-disposable) contact lenses for many years. With care, my old-style lenses used to last me a couple of years before I had to buy a new pair but it was a bit of a pain having to go through the cleaning and soaking ritual every night especially if I was really tired.
With Focus Dailies you can just whip out the lens at the end of the day and throw it away, which is marvellously convenient. There is also no panic if you happen to lose a lens - none of that frantic crawling around on the floor trying to spot it.
Another big plus is that having a fresh lens every day is good from a hygiene point of view. I was always a bit concerned about my non-disposable lenses as I had read about the nasty bug 'acanthamoeba' which is able to live in the lens solution inside storage cases, so disposables feel a lot safer on that front.
There are disadvantages though. Focus Dailies are made of very thin stuff, which while comfortable on the eye seems to dry out a lot more easily than my old lenses which were a lot chunkier. So I occasionally have to remove them before the end of the day as they feel as if they have 'shrivelled up' and glued themselves to my eyeballs. This is more likely in a hot dry environment which I tend to avoid anyway, so not too problematic.
The downside of them being so comfy and slim is that I sometimes have trouble remembering they are in at all and can occasionally go to bed without removing them or - slightly worse - attempt to remove a non-existent lens from my eye when I already removed it earlier!
I also have reservations about all that packaging as it does seem a bit wasteful ...
But on the whole I really like these lenses and will continue to use them. Currently I get them from the Specsavers website where they cost £58.50 for a three month supply.
Summary: the best lenses I have tried
