Advantages: more oxygen allowed into the eyes

Disadvantages: close vision not so good

I have worn contact lenses for the last 30 years! Until this year I had always worn coloured contact lenses until I was persuaded by my optician that due to poor oxygen content to the cornea I was in fact damaging my eyes. I had suffered from bloodshot eyes for a number of years but this became the "norm" not realising the damage I was doing. I started using Johnson and Johnse acuvue for astigmatism 3 months ago and am delighted with the difference. My eyesight is much sharper. I have astigmatism in both eyes and my previous lenses did not really rectify this. Initially I suffered from dry eyes - this lasted about 4 days - and after that they were really comfortable and easy to wear. My bloodshot eyes are now a thing of the past. My only gripe is that my close vision is not so good - which means that I have to apply my makeup before I put in my lenses. However this is a small price to pay for a clearer outlook on the world!
