Advantages: Convenient, quick, clean
Disadvantages: None
I have needed glasses for around 12 years now. Unfortunately I have had to get a new prescription every six months as a result in the deterioration of my vision. As you can appreciate this is extremely costly. Because of this reason I looked in to getting daily disposable contact lenses. I felt this would benefit me more as I would not have to fork out every six months for a new prescription. I was also becoming more active with sports and felt that having glasses was always a hindrance.
My optician explained to me that not everyone is capable of wearing lenses, so I had to have an eye test to make sure I was suitable. Fortunately I was, and I was given one weeks worth as a trial.
I opted for the daily disposables as I felt they would be the more hygienic option and of course the easiest. Fortunately I'm not squeamish about touching my eyes as I know many people are! The lenses come in blister packs filled with sterile saline. They are soft lenses so putting them in was incredibly easy, just put one finger on the lens, make sure it is the right way round and hold your bottom eyelid down, look up and slide it on.
As a first time wearer of contacts, I was shocked at the instant comfort. I felt nothing on the eye itself and my vision was perfect, just as it was with glasses.
The advice is not to wear the lenses for more than 12 hours but I often wore them for most of the day as I just forgot they were there. I also on occasion fell asleep with them in which did cause discomfort in the morning but take them out and rest your eyes and it didn't do any damage.
The only time I have ever had a problem with the lens was one occasion where I rubbed my eye and the lens tore. When I then tried to take it out, only half came out and the other half slipped round my eye. It was incredibly painful and uncomfortable and quite worrying. It took a good few minutes to finally find the other half and remove it. However, I expect this was my fault for rubbing my eye! But that's just one problem in the six years I wore them. I have since had laser eye surgery to correct my vision.
At the time I had them I was paying £30 a month for 30 pairs. I probably wasn't saving much money by having these instead of glasses, but the convenience factor is worth a fortune!! I would recommend these lenses as they are incredibly comfortable, quick, clean and easy to use.
Summary: Great lenses, very comfortable.
