Advantages: Reduce dryness and feel more comfortable for longer

Disadvantages: Very thin, so can be tricky to insert, bit pricey

I never got on with anything other than soft lenses right from the start. I had some non-disposables, but they kept falling out and I lost them, so that got expensive.

So after a few years of giving up, I tried again, this time with daily disposables. Great! What a revelation!
I started with Acuvue and was very happy with the comfort. I used them for a couple of years, buying dailies from my optician via a contract. I could wear them all day (but not all evening as well), with no discomfort. I'd come home from work, take my suit off, put my specs on, happy at home!

The difficulty I found with Acuvue was the actual lenses were so thin that it was quite hard to get them in in the first place ,as they were so floppy. They do work better if you let them dry out on your finger tip before insertion in your eye. So after I said this to my optician he recommended switching to focus dailies, as they are a bit thicker and insertion is therefore easier. So I used Focus Dailies for a couple of years. also fine, but after putting them in at 7.30am, I couldn't wait to take them out by 7.30pm when I got home.
I had two problems:
a) I often found driving home from work my eyes were so dry I'd rub them, the lens would move and I'd not be able to see. Not ideal! But I've only got one pair of glasses, and if I took them into work with me to change into specs before driving home to avoid this problem, then forgot, my one and only specs were at work. And I wasn't. Disaster.
b) I do have a social life and hating always looking my worst when out for the evening instead of my best, as I couldn't wear my lenses. Also work occasions which involved an evening commitment increased and I was finding myself driving to work in my specs to avoid putting my lens in til the last minute, so they'd last longer at the other end of the day. Then I'd drive home late from work, tired, and forget my glasses. Back to square one.

So what I really needed was a lens you could, just sometimes wear for 14 or 15 hours, and one that did not get too uncomfortable after 12, but was OK til you took it out.
TA DA! Enter these babies: Acuvue moist.

1-Day Acuvue MOIST is a soft daily disposable lens, much like the ordinary Acuevue (only more expensive) but with a cunning piece fo technology that adds a moisture-rich ingredient to the stuff they make the lens out of, via a proprietary process to embed it into the lens. This makes the lens more comfy, by creating asmooth cushion throughout the lens, which makes your eyes less likely to dry out. Like many lenses they come with UV Blocking and the lenses have a shape so you can tell if they are inside out.
So while they are still very thin (great once they're in, a bit tricky to insert compared to Focus Dailies) this is more than made up for by the difference they've made to my life. They are still not recommended for more than 10 hours wear a day, as it's not good to cover your cornea all the time as the blood vessels can grow weirdly apparently, but since I never wear mine on a regular weekend during the day, unless something exciting is happening, my eyes do get a rest, and to be honest I'm not wearing them for hours a day longer than before, it's just that the last hour or so of wearing them is not all dry-eyed and uncomfortable like it used to be.

So that's my story. They are brill. The downside is they are quite a lot more expensive than the old focus used to be: a single box of 30 is around £20, depending on where you buy them from and how many you buy at once, whereas you can get focus Dailies for £13 a box, if you shop around. The extra for me, was so so worth paying though.

Like all daily disposables they come in a blister pack in saline, so you have no need to buy any solutions or anything else except the lenses.

This review is also on Ciao.

Summary: Acuvue moist definitely helped keep my eyes feeling fresh and comfortable for longer.

I've been wearing glasses pretty much all my life, and I've always wondered whether it would be a good idea for me to try contacts, but I've always been put off doing it, probably because of the costs involved and I know my hand-eye coordination is bad at times, even worse without my glasses on :)

I've been considering trying some of these. I've never worn contacts before but I'm increasingly needing my specs to be able to see. I think I'll give them a go!
