Johnson & Johnson 1-Day Acuvue TruEye
Advantages: Easy to insert and take out no fiddly cleaning 123 to see which way round they go
Disadvantages: Can leave eyes feeling dry and gritty at the end of a days worth of wear
I normally wear continuous use contact lenses but following a recent burst of two eye infections one after another my optician recommended wearing these Acuvue TruEye contact lenses to ensure that the infection didn't return and to rebuild the length of time that I wear the lenses up again.
I am very short sighted if you ever wondered who can't read the letter at the top of the eye chart I am that person and on a good day I do realised there is a chart to read so going without glasses or lenses for me isn't an option and I prefer lenses to glasses.
These are daily disposable lens which means that you throw them out each day after use and there is no fiddly cleaning which was a bonus for me, as I didn't fancy moving from not having to clean lens to having to fiddle around with them for a couple of weeks till my eye health returned.
These are soft contact lenses that have a slight blue tint to them. They are made from a silicone hydogel that is called Narafilcon A this is supposed to let through almost 100% of the oxygen to stop eyes getting dry and to keep the eye looking healthy. One feature that I did find handy is there is a there is a 123 composed of dots on the lens so you know which way round the lens should go on your eyes. Having on occasions reversed my normal contact lens and found it to be painful I found this feature to be very helpful when it came to inserting the lens into my eyes and I never reversed them at all. The lens come in packs of 30 with each lens individually packed in a sealed pouch with the lens suspended in saline solution. I did find separating these on occasions a bit tricky as the foil tops would occasionally start to unpeeled the next lens in the strip.
Wearing the lens at first seemed to be very comfortable and for the initial four hour periods that I was wearing these lenses I can honestly say I noticed no problem at all in relation to dry eyes, or itching. They were easy to insert and remove and I was very impressed with them as previous daily disposables I had tried had often resulted in my eyes becoming and feeling very dry after a few hours. However when I had increased the length of time of wearing them to about 8 hours I was starting to notice that my eyes were starting to feel a bit dry and gritty and I would need to blink frequently to seem to moist them up. I would also notice after wearing them all day by the time night came to take them out that the contact lenses would feel a bit sticky to the touch which I found unpleasant compared to my normal continuous wear lenses which feel comfortable even when I am very tired during a night shift. I would find if I rubbed my eyes with these lenses in which is naughty I know that they would easily start to either fold in and be displaced in my eyes which again doesn't seem to happen with my normal lenses. Taking the lenses out was very easy to accomplish and presented no problems with them being easily lifted by my finger tips. As there is no cleaning involved they are just thrown away there is no need to clean and soak these overnight which was a bonus for me as I hate messing around with solutions when I am tired.
I am not sure I can fully recommend these as they did leave my eyes feeling gritty and dry by the end of a days wear and they certainly were not as comfortable as my usual continuous wear lenses. However if I am plagued again by some infections I would be happier to wear these to build up my eyes tolerance to contact lenses again compared to the fiddly around with cleaning solution for my continuous wear lenses and for that reason alone I am going to give them 3 stars. As my optician gave me these to wear within my normal monthly plan without any extra cost I can only give the cost as per an internet search and these vary between about £17.50 -£22 for a months supply at present.
Summary: A good disposable but not perfect for stopping eyes getting dry gritty by the end of a day wear
