Advantages: Soothes the eyes and prolongs contact lens comfort.
Disadvantages: Can be quite costly if used daily.
As someone who has worn contact lenses for over 20 years and as I have a particular dislike for wearing glasses, I have come to appreciate Optrex greatly.
As fellow lens wearers will know, the feeling of tired eyes after having your lenses in for a long time is a very uncomfortable one. Because of my poor prescription I have been advised by my optician to wear gas permeable lenses rather than soft or disposable ones and unfortunately they tend to be worse for prolonged wearing. I also don't have the ideal lifestyle, working in front of a computer screen in an office during the day and then settling down for a nights Dooyooing when I get home. Add to this the occasional couple of hours in a smoke filled pub and you have the perfect recipe for eyestrain.
For many years I just put up with the irritation and sore red eyes and tried to give them a little relief by putting my hated glasses on late at night to watch the end of the late film or to finish off some work on the computer. Then a few years ago, after a particularly heavy session at the pub, I fell asleep in my lenses. When I woke up I realised at once that they were still in and removed them immediately.
Luckily it was a Saturday so no work, but my eyes were still stinging and extremely uncomfortable. Then a friend suggested I try Optrex. Along with the bottle of Optrex was an eye bath and instructions which told me to fill the bath one third full and rock my head from side to side to let the liquid wash over the open eye for 30 seconds. Although it's fair to say it didn't return my eyes instantly to a perfect state, it did soothe them considerably. Ever since then I've been a fan of Optrex and try to use it every night when I remove my contacts and sometimes in the morning, espcially after a particularly late Dooyoo session. Doing this has definately cut down on the soreness and eyestrain and is well worth the extra cost.
One word of caution, I am currently t
rying out the new Optrex Fresh Eyes solution and notice that it is advised on the bottle not to use this just before wearing soft contact lenses. Other than this I would certainly recommend it for lens wearers and people who suffer with tired/sore eyes.
PS. If you happen to find yourself with extremely sore eyes and nothing to bathe them with, a soggy teabag will provide some relief. I don't know why, but I can testify that it does work.
