Advantages: Does a good job, affordable
Disadvantages: Nozzle not great
Having spent many years using only 'official' contact lens specialist brand contact lens solution, it's only recently that I have started shopping around for the best value solution. Sainsbury's isn't the most convenient supermarket for us to get to, so we don't often get their products, but I am glad I took the plunge and tried their own brand contact lens solution.
At £4 or thereabouts for a 250ml bottle of all in one solution, it comes in at up to almost half the price of some of the specialist brands such as Bausch and Lomb, and the fact that you don't have to worry about a separate product to neutralise your lenses means that it's very easy to use. This solution means that all you need to do is place the solution in your contact lenses case and then pop the lenses themselves in. The solution will clean them as well as keep them in good condition, neutralising them so they're safe to then put in your eyes next time you need them.
The only concern I had was whether the quality of the solution would be good enough when compared to the leading recognised specialist brands. I have astigmatism, which means there's not a completely smooth curve to them. This in turn means that sometimes lenses don't sit completely comfortably in my eyes and can take a few moments to get set in each time I put them in. Therefore, I'm particularly concerned about making sure the solution is good enough for my purposes.
The truth is that there's little or no difference as far as I can tell in the quality of the solution. It does the job I need it to with no issues whatsoever. I find that the lenses are clean when I take them out, and I suppose that as long as you make sure you do your part and clean them before putting them back in then there's no reason for them not to be. I've held them up to the light to have a look as well and there are no streaks or blemishes either which is good.
The only criticism I might have is the dispenser, a tiny pin prick of a nozzle that spurts the solution out. If you just hold it upside down you can let it drip, and squeezing it will give you a controllable small stream of solution at a good pace, but when you first squeeze and when you release it dribbles, which is annoying when it gets everywhere.
Other than that, I find this to be just as good as specialist brands, and I'd be happy to carry on using it. It's much more affordable, and I can't say I notice the difference. Recommended.
