I began wearing contact lenses two years ago and my optician started me off with Sauflon New Day. I was initially concerned that I wouldn't get on with lenses as I had been told that it takes a while for your eyes to get used to them, but with these lenses this wasn't the case. Sauflon were easy to apply to the eye and kept my eyes feeling moist and comfortable for most of the day. My optician recommended that I wear them for approximately 8-12 hours but they remained comfortable for longer (if I'd had a long day and didn't take them out until 11pm). Two months ago my Optician tried to offer me another option for my lenses (a more expensive brand Acu-vu I believe) and to be perfectly honest there was no noticeable difference (apart from the price) so I stayed with my Sauflon new day lenses and continue to be extremely happy with this brand of lenses.
I have been a contact lens wearer for about 7 years now, although I don't wear them full time maybe just a couple of times a week.
For a long time I used focus dailies, which are a cheap and cheerful lens that you can get anywhere, most own brand lenses are in fact focus dailies.
Last year during my annual eye exam I was recommended the new Sauflon New Day lenses by by optician as a more comfortable alternative. I did some research on the internet and found that these lenses were not easily available in discount online shops, researching further I discovered that this lens was supposedly only available through specialist shops. Anyway I gave them a try.
My glasses prescription is as follows:
RIGHT SPH -3.25, CYL +0.25, AXIS 140
LEFT SPH -3.50, CYL -, AXIS -
I have a very mild astigmatism, which Wikipedia describes as "an irregular or toric curvature of the cornea or lens", this is one of the reasons I was recommended these lenses.
Advanced edge technology (AET)
Front surface aspheric design
UVA and UVB protection
Base curve 8.7 mm
Diameter 14.3 mm
Power range -0.5 to -6.0, +0.5 to +6.0
Thses lenses come in boxes of 30 containing 6 blister strips of 5 lenses, if your eyes are different prescriptions you would obviously need to buy 2 boxes. When I first changed to New Day I was restricted to buying from my optician but now they are starting to be more widely available through online discounters. My optician charged around £20 for a box but you can get them online from around £10 in bulk or £13 for a single box.
From the first instance I started wearing these lenses they instantly felt more comfortable, especially when worn all day as they did not make my eyes feel so dry or sore.
Tthey were easy to insert, but I never really had a problem with other brands.
What I find to be the best thing about these lenses are in unusual light situations. In bright light the UV protections works very well. When driving at night they are better suited than my old lenses for visual accurcy, they also perform better when oncoming cars shine in your eyes. For general lower light conditions they also performed noticably better.
