Advantages: Effective, cheap, easy to use.

Disadvantages: Takes 6 hours.

I have worn contact lenses for about 8 years and have tried a variety of solutions and lenses.

I currently wear SpecSavers Aspheric contact lenses. They are soft contact lenses and are slightly thicker than normal contact lenses. This means that they hold more water and are more comfortable for your eyes, in the long run. I didn't notice that they were any thicker and they didn't dry out so easily and stick to my eyes as my previous ones did. This means that they are more comfortable in air conditioned environments and when staring at a computer screen.

They cost £12 per month and come with all the solutions and contact lenses cases you will need.

The solution I use is called Easy Vision One Step Multifunction solution. It is peroxide based and from my experience does the job a lot better than non-peroxide solutions. The only time I ever got an eye infection was when I was using a non-peroxide based solution, so I would recommend this for thorough cleaning.

All you have to do is take your contact lenses out, and put them in the baskets of the contact lense case. You fill the container up to the line with the solution and place your contact lenses inside it. There is no need to clean them first with a special solution as the solution contains an integral cleansing agent.

You don't have to add anything to the solution as the case has a special disc which uses ionic exchange which neutralises the solution. This is great, especially if you are prone to accidently forgetting to add neutralising tables or neutralising them in solutions before you put them in. So, there is no risk of putting acid directly into your eyes which can be extremely painful!

It takes 6 hours to cleanse and neutralise your contact lenses. But, once this is completed you can take them out and wear them.

The only draw back is the length of time you have to leave them in the solution. Sometimes I tak
e my contact lenses out to give my eyes a rest. If you accidently just leave them in the neutralised solution, you can't just clean them in an hour like some other solutions. It takes 6 hours.

Overall, the system is cheap and effective and you get a new pair of contact lenses for each month. SO it is very hygienic and good if you accidently lose a contact lense. Also, it cuts down on the number of bottles you have to take away with you when you go away. Whilst you are on the scheme, you are also entitled to free contact lense checks.

They do sound good. I'm thinking that the op is about a specific brand, rather than contact lenses in general, though. hence U, and I feel a bit mean, becuase it was a VU op, really, but people looking for general advice might find this a bit specific. I'll email the cat manager to see if she'll create a category for you:)

Sounds interesting but I don't think I could go without my lenses for 6 hours! I don't even get that much sleep!! Sue
