Advantages: Comfortable to wear

Disadvantages: Expensive

I have been a wearer of specs for most of my life, and when I recently had my appointment at the Opticians, I was asked if i'd like to take these lenses as a trial. Initially, I was quite squirmish about even touching my eyeball, nevermind inserting something in there, so, as you can imagine, I was apprehensive. You need a current glasses prescription in order to be able to actually wear lenses. I was shown how to put a lens in, and have not looked back since! I tried these, and they gave me a new lease on life! Not exaggerating, but I could wake up, and SEE clearly! WOW! These are monthly disposable lenses, so, after you've made use of them for the 28-31 days it's time for the new batch to be used. Technically speaking, they are soft contacts in buffered saline solution. 42% polymer (etafilcon A) 58%, Water and visbility tint with UV inhibitor. Material: Methafilcon A IV 1. You can get 6 pairs/6 months supply for £78.00, which, if you wear them every so often, alternating them with specs, can last alot longer than 6 months. For a year's supply they cost £156.00, which, if worn everyday, comes to just over 40p per day - which isn't too bad.
You can also pay for your lenses by monthly direct debit, which work out to £10 per month (including the solution), without £7.00 per month. I have found the contact lens solution to be far cheaper at Asda and have tended to go for that option, rather than an extra £3 per month. They do provide you with a comfortable feeling - in fact, most of the time I don't realise I've got them on. Brilliant aftercare, which is unlimited in terms of how often you go back, which is handy.

It is worth mentioning that despite the aftercare and the face to face advantage of Specsavers, that shopping around on the internet will save you quite a substantial amount if you go for a lesser known brand. I have found 12 Pairs/12 month supply for £60.00 from Biomedics 55. More well known brands such as Cibavision, Bausch & Lomb, Coopervision etc have been bought by places like Specsavers and repackaged, selling them to the consumer for a profit. I have tried Biomedics 55 and found them to be as comfortable as the ones I originally bought from Specsavers.

Summary: Specs can be kept as a backup, but shop around
