Recently I found myself having way too many bare hard drives sitting around and I just had to find a solution. I spent some time searching and viola! I found exactly what I was looking for. This docking station almost does it all. It supports both SATA and IDE drives in the standard 3.5 inch and the laptop 2.5 inch and that's fantastic because I have some of all of those. My largest drive (1.5TB SATA) was mounted without any problems. The only drives it doesn't support are SCSI, but that won't be a problem for most users.
To install, I simply plugged the docking station into my laptop running Windows 7 and it was recognized and installed correctly without any more input for me. I never even opened in the included software. It operates over USB 2.0, so the speed are pretty fast. Mounting a hard drive is a simple as plugging it in and you can hot swap very easily.
If you're a Linux user, I had no problems getting it to install on an Unbuntu distro.
There are cheaper hard drive enclosures out there that will do the same thing, but they are not nearly as convenient.
