1 Dough 50 Cookies
Advantages: Variety of cookie recipes, simple easy instructions.
Disadvantages: Dribbling over book.
Another book similar to 1 mix, 50 muffins is 1 dough, 50 cookies, which I am about to review today.
Yes, you have guessed it, the cookies are based upon a basic cookie mix and all you need to do is add a few variations. Simples!
Introduction - The content structure is similar to the muffin book I reviewed previously, it explains the equipment, ingredients and gives the basic cookie dough recipe which makes 30 cookies.
Type of cookies included in this book are gooey, crunch, party, fruity, double the fun. There are 10 recipes for each cookie type.
Gooey cookie recipes:
Mega chip, Almond & raspberry jam drops, Orange & Chocolate fingers, Pear & mint, Chocolate, date & pecan nut, Marshmallow daisies, Peanut partners, Chocolate sprinkle, Treacle & spice drizzles, Chocolate spread & hazelnut drops.
Crunch cookie recipes:
Almond crunchies, Flower gems, Rose flower, Cashew & poppy seed, Biscotti, Golden hazelnut, Apricot & pecan, Pistachio & almond, Cappuccino, Cinnamon & orange crisps.
Party cookie recipes: Either iced cookies or involves alcohol in the recipe.
Iced stars, Chocolate buttons, Name, Sugared hearts, Margarita, Caribbean, Easter bunny, Traditional Easter, Christmas angels, Christmas bells.
Fruity cookie recipes:
Pear & pistachio nut, Orange & lemon, Banana & raisin, Cherry & chocolate diamonds, Grapefruit & apple mint, Strawberry pinks, Coconut & cranberry, Blueberry & orange, Oaty raisin & hazelnut, Peach, pear & plum.
Double the fun cookie recipes: These are cookies with two cookies with a filling between them.
Jam rings, Mint cookie with white chocolate ganache, Rum & raisin cookies with orange filling, Redcurrant & pastry cream, Pineapple & ginger creams, Crunchy nut & honey sandwich, Chocolate & orange cookie sandwiches, Marshmallow s'mores (look like wagon wheels to me), Tropical fruit & mascarpone cream cookie sandwiches, Ice cream cookie sandwiches.
The layout of the book is the same as the muffin book, in terms of the right hand side pages full of pictures of the end result, book size of a medium note book and at the price of £8.99, but can be purchased for much less. The recipes have been put together by Linda Doeser. The number of cookies each recipe produce varies so it won't always produce 30 cookies as with the basic cookie dough recipe.
I am not one for iced cookies but a few favourites have been the chocolate buttons, ice cream cookie sandwiches, chocolate spread & hazelnut drops which are really indulgent. Instructions are simple to follow and you can't possible go wrong. This is probably an ideal book to use when cooking with the kids as I think grownups and kids alike will enjoy making the cookies but even more scoffing the whole lot. It's probably cheaper to either purchase cookies from a shop or bakery, but you would miss out on the variety and the taste of a home cooked recipe and that satisfaction that you made theses creations yourself. So overall another good book even though it recipes are really not good for you but everyone deserves a treat now and again.
Summary: Be doughed over by cookies.
