I have numerous cookery books in my collection, some more useful than others! Many years ago I was given a family cookery book called the dairy book of family cookery and it has been one of the most useful cookery books I own. The copy I own is published by Ebury press on behalf of the milk marketing board. It contains 700 recipes and was purchases via the local milkman. I have no idea what the book cost to buy but see it is on offer via Amazon. This book was published in 1983 and begins with a forward from the Duchess of Kent. Chapter one is entitled the good life and deals with healthy eating. It lists Vitamins and their sources as well as extolling the ... Read the complete review

In our house, I do most of the cooking and occasionally I bake too. Like a lot of people on a day to day basis, we probably eat the same 30 or so meals on a rotating basis and only occasionally I try something new. It is at that stage that I have recourse to a cookery book of which I have several. Probably the one I have had the longest is this one and I recently unearthed it from the back of a magazine rack. On grey days like this I like to bake and freeze the extra pies I make for later on and it's good to have a easy step by step cook book to follow and this is one of my old faithfuls when it comes to my cooking int he kitchen. It will cost you anything from £4 on ebay up to £6.99 in the shops, I got my copy off ebay for the lower price and was lucky to get it at that as some go higher, but then did have to pay the postage so it worked out the same as if i had bought it in the shop. The book is split into different sections so that you can easily find what you are looking for and cook or bake the desired recipie. It has almost everything you would like to try ... My mother has this book. It was given to her as a wedding present years and years ago back in the 80's. I'm a bit of a fan of cooking, namely baking. And alot of the earliest things I can remember cooking with mum came from this book. Pancakes, pastry, soups....... all out of this book. I shant lie, the recipes aren't michelin class.... many of them call for things even my mother can't remember ever using, theres alot of lard and other such things which are alien to a modern kitchen. Even when you do have the archaic ingredients, its hit and miss whether things will work. We had an awful issue with merangues that cooked for 3 hours and were ... Read the complete review
