The easy cook cookbook is edited by Sarah Giles and is part of the BBC Books range. The title suggests that it's a cookbook with real food for busy people.
The book contains an introduction and then it splits off into two parts and then ends with the index.
Introduction: Its just 2 pages long, explaining how busy our lives have gotten but we can still rustle up dishes in minutes using familiar ingredients in new ways. It goes on to talk about quick and easy cooking, meals for the whole week and how they really hope to inspire you whether you're an experienced cook or a beginner and do some more home cooking.
Part one: easy everyday food - Takes you through recipes you can cook for midweek meals from Monday to Friday. Part one is divided into sections:
Easy suppers - Ready in 20 minutes or less. This is designed to get nutritious food on the table at the end of a busy day. Do not be fooled that it will be ready in 20 minutes or less it's just stated since it assumes you have the ingredients prepared already, so I'm assuming it takes twice as long. There are 16 recipes which include sticky glazed pork, lamb steaks with tomato and olives, chicken mushroom chicken and many more.
Easy low-fat meals - Healthier, but just as tasty. Apparently contains 12% of fat or less, but still packed with flavour. There are 11 recipes which include guilt-free fish and chips, curries and many more.
Easy standby - Speedy meals with store cupboard ingredients. Ingredients that easy cook consider as essentials and because it can be used at a moment's notice. There are 10 recipes mostly pasta and pizza, and other things.
Easy family food - recipes to get everyone around the table. There are 12 recipes, it includes some old favourites such as chilli con carne, macaroni cheese and other different recipes
Easy puds- for when you want something fast and sweet. This section contains 10 recipes and is suppose to take 10 minutes to whip up. Recipes include rhubarb and strawberry meringue pots, chocolate cherry trifle, tipsy berries and many more, but personally the hot strawberry sandwich is nice with vanilla ice cream.
Part two: easy weekend food - This is for when you have a little more time to spend in the kitchen. This is also divided into sections:
Easy classics - Traditional recipes made super-simple. There are 10 recipes which include simple spaghetti bolognese, cheat's moussaka, oven-baked mushroom and thyme risotto and many more.
Easy snacks - something quick and easy to fill you up. There are 10 recipes, some you can use at breakfast time also. Recipes include eggy bread, salmon rarebit, sausage and lentil pasties and many more.
Easy lunches - recipes for casual midday meal with friends. There are 10 recipes which include red onion, mushroom polenta tart, Mexican fish wraps and many more.
Easy entertaining - fuss-free recipes for meals you can linger over. It gives you meal plan for casual dinner party, posh dinner part and Sunday lunch. This section also includes 20 recipes with starters, main course and desserts.
Easy baking - delicious ideas for afternoon tea - or just to enjoy on your coffee break. There are 8 recipes which include cakes and biscuits, I particularly like the raspberry crumble cake bars.
This book has loads of easy recipes, the instructions are simple and easy to understand, it's very ideal for a beginner or even students, but I'm sure everyone would benefit from it. It includes dishes with a modern twist and the recipes have been triple-tested to ensure you can cook with confidence. It also tells you by the recipe whether or not it is suitable for freezing so if you don't have time you can always make a batch up and freeze it if possible. The book is well presented with loads of pictures of finished dishes but it's not for every recipe which is a real shame as it is more daunting to make a dish you have no idea what it should look like in the end. Don't think that this book is just for meat eaters they have include dishes suitable for vegetarians too and I'm sure you would have no problem substituting some of the meat products in the dishes.
Overall a fantastic cook book, its retail price is £9.99 but Amazon does it much cheaper.
