      An excellent book

      ~ Why I Bought It ~
I bought this book for obvious reasons - I wanted to lose weight! I came across it in the library a while ago and liked it so much that I decided to buy my own copy so that I had it all the time for reference - it is packed full of information! Before I came across this I'd never heard of it before but it was actually released back in 2004. I wish I'd come across it sooner as since reading I have become a lot more educated about nutrition and food.

      ~ Price ~
According to the price stamp on the back of my book it should have cost a whopping £12.99!! Would I have paid that? Not in a million years, I think that this price is ridiculous. I bought mine from Amazon marketplace for £2.50 which I'm really pleased with. It has been used but is in great condition. If you want to buy it brand new though it will set you back by £11.69 if you buy it from amazon.

      ~ My Opinion ~
From looking at the cover of the book I wasn't too impressed. It seemed like yet another diet book, and the claims 'no hunger, no calorie counting' seemed much too good to be true! As soon as I began reading it though I was impressed. Not only is the style of writing easy to follow, but I like that it is very informative without having too many gobbledygook scientific facts like a lot of diet books do.

The book has lots of different sections including a seven day plan which includes a shopping list - really helpful! as well as recipes for the meals on the plan such as soup and things like that. I particularly like that the food plan has pictures of the food as it makes all of the healthy, low fat food actually look delicious and quite filling. I also love the 'planning meals' section which has information on which food gives you the most energy and keeps you fuller for longer.

This also has a section called 'breakfast suggestions' which I found helpful for coming up with new concoctions, for example this book recommends fish on toast as one of the best breakfasts which I would not have tried before buying this book but it is actually delicious. There's something for everyone in the choices and I found it really helpful as I never used to really eat breakfast but this made me realise the importance of it.

There's also a section of healthy snack suggestions along with a snack equation which tells you which food groups are the best to eat as a snack and tells you which foods are in these food groups. The book has ten principles of weight loss too which are easy to follow and the author tells you all about why you should follow them, which is quite enlightening. One of the principles is actually 'eat a wide variety of food' - how many diet books say that?!

Though this is a diet book and it is brimming with information, this isn't a book that claims to help you drop five pounds in a week simply by eating the food it recommends. The author makes it clear that exercise is essential, so this may not appeal to people who want a quick, effortless fix. The recipe section is great and i have tried lots of the recipes and they were all delicious. The recipes are not really anything too exotic or anything but there is lots of different flavours and choice.

I have had this book for around a year now and have read it several times and I have copied out the shopping list too. Have I lost any weight? Yes! Since reading this book and becoming more informed about healthy food and different healthy recipes I have been cooking almost all of my meals from scratch, eating three healthy meals a day (apart from when I did slimfast) and eating several healthy snacks a day when I'm hungry.

I feel healthier, look healthier and I've lost my little double chin that I had at one point! I feel lighter and have dropped over 36 pounds, however I have been breast feeding during this time which of course has had an effect and I also lost a little of the weight when I decided (stupidly) to do the slim fast diet. My fiancé enjoys all the recipes too and we don't see them as being rabbit food as they are big portions and really tasty.

      ~ All in All ~
An excellent book with plenty of helpful information about weight loss and food. It has some great recipes and the food plan is easy to follow with easily affordable food.

a great way to loose the pounds healthily

As a lot of you will already know from my previous review on dieting that my weight has been a problem for most of my life and something that has caused me great health issues.

At the begining of this year i was once again struggling to maintain my weight and wanted to diet again but was concerned that i would not go about it the right way or would get into trouble by slipping back into bad habbits, i saw this book on amazon for just short of £9 and had heard that this doctor was good as unlike all the others who give us dieting advice Ian marber isnt in it to loose calories and pounds he is in this to get people eating healthily and nutritiously which was exactly what i needed.

This is a 144 page book designed to help you through the first week of eating healthily so that you continue on the right path and loose your excess weight slowly and healthily without starving your body of any of the nutrition it needs. The book has graat menu options, it has a lot of motivational tips for when you are feeling rubbish and about to give up, the food in the menus is great it allows you to eat everything you want to and need to without everything tasting like card board or you being hungry all the time.

This book realy is a great diet plan that allows you to eat all the right foods with loosing weight at the same time healthily, withing a few months you will have achieved a healthier fitter body the natural way.

The Food Doctor High Bran and Seed with Cranberry Bagels

This was £1.19 for 4 bagels from Tesco, with 212.5 calories per bagel, with 1.6g of fat, 0.34g of which are saturated fats.

These were not too sweet, which I preferred – I have tasted cranberry breads before and they have been too sweet to have as a savoury dish. This is good toasted. I couldn’t taste the cranberry at all, which was a bit disappointing, as I was expecting a subtle hint of berry. There are a lot of seeds on the top of the bagel, which I liked because it added texture and made me feel like I was eating something healthy!!
