Beko BDC5422AS
by annie47
My old cooker was about 13 years old! and i had really had enough of it; it was good for quite a while, an electric cooker but one with those older style electric round rings that get stained very quickly and are almost impossible to clean! I looked through quite alot of cookers but knew i wanted one with a ceramic hob this time; i came ... across this Beko one at Currys and thought it was great value for money. It was only around £259 and is in a lovely silver colour.
Width wise, some people may think its a little small; its fits fairly well into the space i had my old cooker in, and because of its narrower width, it is very easy for me to pull it out and clean under, behind and around the cooker. The cooker size is fine, fairly large and thankfully the cooker came with 3 oven racks; my old one only had 2 which could be very annoying, especially when cooking something like a roast dinner where you might have lots of things in the oven at the same time.
The 4 ceramic hobs heat up very quickly indeed, although takes a while for them to cool down. I soon realised that it is essential to buy something like Hob Brite and special scrapers for such hobs as this; Do pay attention as to how to clean the Hobs, as they cannot be cleaned like other cookers without ceramic hobs; You will need to ensure the hobs cool right down first, then pour some Hob brite or similar cleaner for ceramic hobs onto the hobs; rub this into each hob with some kitchen roll and you will see the grease coming off off the hob and onto the kitchen roll; its actually amazing how such cleaners work; Now you may get some stubborn stains, stuck on stains; and for this you need a special scraper (you can get it in Robert Dyas or similar hardwear stores); You gently scrape stubborn marks off with this; afterwards rinse the hobs with a moistened cold water paper towel/kitchen roll and then dry with a dry cloth, like a J cloth.
The results are amazing! It can be fairly easy to scratch the surface however and through my own fault, i do have one tiny scratch on the hobs, so be careful not to be too forceful if you need to use the scraper; i understand that if you happen to spill something sugary which is hot onto the hob when cooking, this should be cleaned as soon as possible, obviously being careful not to burn yourself!
There is a double glazed door on the oven and as the oven is see through, you can see your food cooking and check on it without having to keep opening the door! The one slight set back with the oven is that it is very low down, which may irritate some people.
The grill is fine, and you can easily attach the handle to the grill pan; this grill part is also great for keeping plates warm.
Specifications
Energy Efficiency Rating; A
4 element ceramic hob
Width; 50cm
Single oven cooker with separate grill
Conventional oven/easy clean enamel oven
58 litre capacity oven
I wanted my old cooker taken away and at a reasonable cost (£65) this was done for me by Currys; my cooker was fully connected to the electric cooker socket already in place by the people who delivered it.
For the price, this cooker is great! It works well, cleans up well and is nice looking and a lovely colour; a real bargain for a ceramic hob cooker! Worthy of 4 Dooyoo stars in my view. Read the complete review |

Beko BDVC563A
by madeindevon
I moved house nearly two years ago and found myself in the situation of having to buy a new cooker, as not only does my new (actually quite old, 1930's) not have gas installed, but neither does the whole area.. typically I had been cooking with gas, to coin a phrase, for a few years - so I was on the hunt for a new cooker that wouldn't ... break the bank.
I chose this Beko - the catalogue picture attached to this review shows it as being black, but it is actually a white cooker.
It has a double oven and a ceramic hob and is 50cm wide.
The double oven is a fan convection oven, meaning that the hot air is distributed throughout the oven evenly, it comes with two shelves and a glazed door, with a light, so you can keep an eye on things without having to open the door.
The smaller, single oven is a traditional one, very small and doubles up as a grill - also very effective.
The hob is ceramic and starts to heat up instantly, there are four "rings" two large, two small, and they seem to give out different degrees of heat - ie, one of the larger ones does not heat up as much as the other large one.
The ceramic hob, whilst effective, is quite hard to keep clean, even a small spill - if left to dry - can take quite a bit of work to make the hob look pristine again, but you can buy products (I use Hob Clean, in an orange bottle)which seem to make the job considerably easier.
The grill/single oven comes with an internal shelf, which can be put into the main oven as there is room for three shelves in the main oven should you need it.
The Oven is free standing and needs wiring into the special Cooker socket in the kitchen, this needs a professional electrician to do so in my opinion - electrics should not tackled if you are not a professional.
The main oven capacity is 58 litres and the second oven capacity 28 litres.
Now we are a family of four adults living at home and this size oven has proven to be perfect size for us, particularly when you put the shelf from the grill into the main oven, this obviously means that there would not be enough room for three shelves worth of large (high) items though.
Main Oven 0.79 kwh
Secondary 0.89 kwh
Energy Rating A
The Oven came with a grill tray and handle and a heavy duty baking tray
We paid nearer £350 for this cooker two years ago, but we did have to buy it from Kays Catalogue sadly, which as you know can be over priced, but this oven is currently for sale in Currys and is now £279.99
So in summary, I got forced to buy a new cooker and forced to buy electric!!!
This, as it has turned out is not a problem, this Beko is great, the fan oven heats quickly and very effective, two years on it is going strong with no problems, the ceramic hob is great, tricky to keep clean, but with the right products not really a problem.
All in all, very good and for £279.99 I would say very good.. Read the complete review |

Beko DVG695SP

I bought my Beko around 4 years ago from Iceland's for just under £260.00. My old cooker which I loved gave up the ghost and went to visit the great cooker graveyard in our local council dump.
There are many reasons why I was drawn to this cooker, the first and most importantly was the price. It wasn't the cheapest by any ... means but it wasn't that expensive either. It was among one of the cheapest and although I did pay a little more for the stainless steel version, it looks better I think than the usual white one. Delivery was great from Iceland, they delivered when they said they would and even brought the cooker all the way into my kitchen which was nice. I got a proper installer to connect the cooker to the gas supply as this is not something I wanted to do myself; I wanted a professional; who knew what he/she was doing to install it. Safety first and all that.
I will admit when I buy new things I am like a child in a toy shop, I have to read the instruction manual and turn all the knobs, press all the buttons, open and close all the doors, having this new cooker was no different. I had to all the above, numerous times. The novelty has worn off now though you will be pleased to hear. When this was first installed the first thing I noticed was the size of it, it is quite compact really. I had an old cooker that had the grill above the rings, because this version does not have that, I was more aware of the openness of the appliance. From floor to rings it is 35 inches, it is 19 inches wide and 23 inches from front to back.
I love the stainless steel look, it is clean and cool looking, all my other appliances are white but this does somehow fit with that scheme. On the top there are four gas rings, they come in three different sizes. They range from four inches (front right), three inches (front and back left) a finally two inches (back right). The temperature gauge, is a big flame to a little flame, it has a good range of temperature and this is easily controlled. On the front of the cooker, there are four dials for each of the four rings, also one for the oven and the grill. There are two buttons for the ignition and the oven light.
A good feature about the cooker is in order to light the rings, you have to push in the corresponding knob, turn it to the full flame and press the ignition button. When lighting the oven, you have to keep the button pushed in or it cuts off the gas and goes out. After roughly 10 seconds, you can let go of the button and the flame stays on. It saves you thinking it is lit and leaving gas coming out, good idea!
The oven is spacious with two shelves it is easy to clean. The grill is my least favourite part of the cooker and I very rarely use it. You have to use a shelf from the oven to place in the grill, the handle for the grill pan, grips on but not very well. It is detachable as when you close the grill door, there would not be enough room for the tray plus the handle. When using the grill, I have tried to make cheese on toast under the grill but the tray doesn't go high enough for the grill to have any effect. It does get hot and the flames work but because the gas part sticks out a fair way, you can't get the shelf close enough to it. It is disappointing as now I don't use the grill, also once you have used it, you have to leave the downwards opening door open until it has cooled down, this can be annoying too.
The whole cooker is easy to clean, the top part all comes apart, and there are two metal covers that go over the gas rings, these lift off, you can remove the lids of the gas rings as well as the covers. Using a damp cloth, I have used either kitchen cleaning spray, or stainless steel cleaner to remove any spills then rinsed it over with a wet cloth and left it to dry. Over the years it has now got a few dried on stains that I can't get off but in general it is still a very clean and presentable cooker. I do find that once I have taken all the bits off and given it a good clean, when I next use it, the gas doesnt come out all the way round the ring as it should, it only takes a few moments for it to either rectify this on its own, or I turn the ring off and turn it back on again, this normally fixes it.
I use a wok for a lot of the cooking I do and it is quite a large one, I tend to use this when making spaghetti etc. I have a problem when making this because the size of the wok, doesn't allow enough room for a saucepan of water to boil for the pasta. I do them both at the same time but it does mean they have to both only be half on the rings, again a little annoying. One other small issue I have now is the door is a bit temperamental, sometimes it shuts with a slight push, other times it needs a damn hard slam to close it, only a small gripe.
All on all it does its job very well, apart from the grill. I would recommend it but would go for a model next time with the overhead grill, although I don't miss not having one as I haven't used it for so long. Well worth buying though. Read the complete review |
